Burl Burlingame Honolulu Star-Advertiser That the blood and thunder is being carried out by big-eyed children is a little creepy, but then, the Great Patriotic War was no day at the amusement park. Rated: 2.5/4 Jul 5, 2011 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Okay, to start off the animation is beautifully done, Its smooth the characters are drawn quite well, but when you get to the story it's self is it absolute garbage. The main characters themselves are so bland and forgettable that after the movie I had forgotten the main blonde girl's name (She's basically just a really bad ripoff of Mikasa from "Attack on Titian"). The rest of the main characters are basically just really bad anime tropes. For example, the love interest a.k.a the "perfect man" (except his nose),then we have the outrageous big tits lady (who is annoying and too loud), who is accompanied by a twinky engineer (hes the smart one who invents everything), and last but not least the big stupid strong guy (the himbo). Some of the other characters introduced are worthless to the story, if you took out the soviet twins basically nothing would have changed, besides two minor characters dying (after 2 scenes they are completely out of the picture never to be seen again). Now getting onto the story, the concept was basically this. The Nazis formed a cult and were trying to summon an medieval Prussian night who would secure their victory in the war. The Soviets somehow knew what the Nazis were up to and decided to invent a machine that would take people to a ghost realm in order to stop the summoning of that Prussian knight. But for some reason they wanted that blonde girl to enter the realm (because she's "special"). And that's where the story beings, So blonde girl is entertaining some Soviet soliders, until an explosion happens and alot of people die. She lives and we get to see a montage of what her life was like before and a little bit during war and we find out that her parents and possibly her friends died during the beginning of the war. Then we skip back to present time and she is in an old mans house, he tells her that she need to go to a certain place where someone is waiting for her (because she's "special"). so shes on her way to meet some guy (while also being targeted by some hoes). Not going to explain more of this shit because she never accomplishes her goals anyways. Funny thing is when its time for her to fight that Prussian Knight, she gets owned. And its up to her "boyfriend" to save the day instead. That's the end of the movie. But wait PLOT TWIST the Prussian knight her boyfriend killed wasn't the real Prussian knight. It was in fact an impostor. Thus this entire movie is a fucking waste of time cause they never complete their mission. WOW. What a great movie this is. In conclusion, These characters are shit.I felt more of a personal attachment to the fucking Soviet Taxi driver who was trying to take Mikasa to a safe place than i did the main characters. In the story nothing gets resolved in the end, thus making this movie shit. -15/10 Its a waste of an hour and fifteen minutes, You will thank me for this later. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member The trailer made it look so good. DO NOT BE FOOLED! This anime was bad. Only reason it did not get 1 star was because of the WW2 setting. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Very well done. It intersperses real actors giving historical accounts of what happened with the visual effects of the animation. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member Quite interesting, but mostly a mash-up of ideas that have been used countless times in Anime. It all seems a bit redundant now. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member I find this not a bad movie. What's interesting is that it's Russian & Japanese animation combined. I also enjoyed that the story of the film takes place in a historic time. In this case, the Eastern Front of World War II. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member "During World War 2, Russian teens - both alive and dead - with supernatural abilities are recruited to fight on the Eastern Front. The Nazis have resurrected an army of German crusaders [from the the 13th century]." As a fan of Pumpkin Scissors, Iron Storm, Haunted Tank, and Wolfenstein, I loved this. The animation isn't spectacular, but it's better than TV show quality and it's really entertaining. Highly recommend for those that enjoy supernatural war themes.
