See more Par H @Parhwy 1d First Love (2019) is a 108-minute-long Japanese crime/thriller/romance I saw on DVD (which I hired from my local library) in April 2026. Loved this film. I would love to tell you about all the scenes, acting, costuming, dialogue, artistry, directing, scripting, cinematography… and so on and on. I won’t, that would spoil what I really would love: That you watch this film like I did, with a mere paragraph of description on the back of a DVD box, heading into the unknown and falling in love with grimaces, laughs, gasps and lols. There is only one scene I baulked heavily due to a significant style divergence; while I get it was perhaps necessary due to the scene’s logistics, it was jarring. Rewatch? Yes. Recommend? Yes! 9/10. It's violent, brutal, with well-orchestrated fights and a plot with accusations between the lines. We have a fable that uses comical attempts (with small successes) to provide a certain relief in its aggressiveness and that works well with the cliché of first love, in the last yakuza.
