Alan Ng Film Threat The story of this family is compelling and will have you thinking long after it's done. Rated: 7.5/10 Nov 24, 2020 Full Review Laura Clifford Reeling Reviews imbued not only with the heightened drama of the teenaged girl's point of view of the aforementioned "Virgin Suicides," but the doomed romanticism of "Picnic at Hanging Rock" and the art house horror of "Take Shelter." Rated: B Oct 26, 2020 Full Review Anne Brodie What She Said A superior and chilling character study of a family in mourning. Oct 23, 2020 Full Review Stephen Saito Moveable Fest The filmmakers behind "Fishbowl" allow frustration to transform into something quite moving, showing that apocalypses need not be global events to be devastating. Shock Therapy R I agree that this is a combination of Virgin Suicides and Take Shelter themes but with much less plausibility and sympathy. The mother's pep was Pollyanna and overwrought in its flashbacks. The father's knee jerk or developed bitterness and distrust toward his girls was mercurial. His vulnerability was translated gullibility, but then culpability when abdicated to his young captives. The religious themes were transparent and relatable, but the demands undertaken, cultic and draconian. A person like this finishes the job, but this script hijacks the character of the protagonist, and then crash lands into an entirely different movies' ending. If this is a film to be appreciated for the raw intensity of suffering, it makes the viewer wonder why the police or the priest didn't take a harder look into this fishbowl, or why the writer either meandered to the inevitable close, or lost sight of this story's plot trajectory. This movie was a misfire, albeit with great potential for explosive and dramatically more meaningful possibilities. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Amanda H This movie has a good story line but was very slow and uneventful Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/22/22 Full Review Audience Member Great take on the obsessive faith of the recovering alcoholic, the wavering faith of the young, the horrific con of the media preacher, and the desperation of apocalyptic belief. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member It had promise, but the ending left something to be desired. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member I do have a bit of a bias towards this film, but none the less it is a great film. Very well shot, great script, great direction. This is one of those films that leaves you with a lot of questions and you and your friends will be talking about it long after the credits roll. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Very slow, yet moving morality tale about grief, addiction and manipulation. Not exactly a moving watch, but more an important character study of the damage we can do to each other, even if our intentions are pure. 6/10 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
