Michael L Westerns aren't popular as they once were, part of that reason is just about every morality play, and hero type has already been shown, several times. I can't say this is all that original, having a strong script or actors that are compelling. It lacks that final finish, a sort of lack of proper weapons techniques, missteps in continuity, and characters who make you want to like them. Having said that, it has a story with a few twists, with people who aren't always clever enough to avoid mistakes, To that end it brings together people with flaws, and grey area people operating within their personal limits. In some ways it reminds me of Missouri Breaks, and Posse. If you can tolerate a little bit of good in the bad guy, and a little bit of bad in the good guy, then this film won't upset your predisposition. I read the other criticisms of it being an amateur looking film, or poorly acted. Let's see, were the objects and people in focus, were the colors good? Were the voices understandable? There were no memorable action set pieces. Stunts and derring do were minimal. What the film did was tell a story, primarily about a criminal who wasn't terrifying or all that clever. What he demonstrated, he was a survivor. If things weren't going his way, he didn't have a trick firearm, incredibly fast horse, or a highly developed criminal network. He was simply a person who broke the law, and had some sociopathic tendencies. It wasn't that he had a vendetta against others. No revenge plot or grandiose lifestyle. The movie came together in the last 12-15 minutes. More than anything, it closed in on the main character, and showed him to have fear, but remain resourceful. The protagonist finally was pulling in his reach with the correct person for whom he was tracking. It wasn't the kind of movie leaving behind the former damsel in distress while the good guys trot off. If anything, it reverses the standard plot and gives the audience something to think about. It's available for free now. Watch it if you have time, I think you might enjoy it Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/25 Full Review Henry B I think that this was the worst western movie ever made; senseless killing of different people and the outlaw should have never got away and collected the reward. A stupid Movie!! 👎👎👎 Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/20/24 Full Review Audience Member This movie feels like the world's best film-school final project. [SPOILERS] They must have been paying Eric Roberts by the frame, because no sooner did I think to myself "huh, I guess this is a more serious movie that I was expecting" after recognizing him - than they killed him off! What followed was another 83 minutes of mostly trite cliches. There were a few unexpected turns, and some clever dialogue, but all of the best plot devices were spoiled by the fact that the writer/director team doesn't seem to understand guns or horses. Or wool. Or money. (Why would the protagonist desecrate his brother's body, give himself a tattoo, and run the risk of presenting himself to the town sheriff to collect a $5,000 bounty, but leave a gold bar worth about the same amount laying on the ground next to the body of a stranger?) Even the lovely panoramic shots couldn't disguise the fact that the film was made on a shoestring with just a handful of actors, and the final "twist" at the end feels so much like a punchline that the whole rest of movie ends up coming off as nothing more than a very long setup to a kinda' funny joke. It might seem a little more funny if I could shake the feeling that the joke's on me. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member 160918: A bit fun this unique, low budget film. Weak in many ways but not a total waste of time. Quite violent so be prepared. A couple of tips for the production crew. If you're going to be a bandit, you should load your revolver. If you shoot your flask, it shouldn't hold whiskey shortly thereafter. On a positive note, features a unique lever action pistol, a Volcanic I believe, and a pretty good soundtrack. Both lead actors, Orson Ossman and Eric Roberts, and their respective characters, Jasper Mudd and Denton Cartwright, are admirably strong. Twistedly good and I don't regret spending the $9.88 at Walmart. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
