Ben Sachs Chicago Reader A touching depiction of people trying their best despite overwhelming social odds. Mar 26, 2020 Full Review Jeannette Catsoulis New York Times A dreary pileup of hard-luck monologues and run-down locations, Mark Webber's "Flesh and Blood" straddles the line between fact and fiction with exhausting earnestness and a fatal dearth of narrative. Nov 9, 2017 Full Review Keith Watson Slant Magazine Mark Webber's stripped-down approach renders the messy, unglamorous lives at the film's center with dignity. Nov 6, 2017 Full Review Derek Deskins Edge Media Network In a film full of people basically playing themselves it is Webber, likely playing a character farthest from himself, that makes the film worthwhile. Rated: 3/5 Mar 1, 2019 Full Review Christopher Llewellyn Reed Hammer to Nail All along, we follow Webber's engaging performance, always captivated by the deep thought process within. Feb 25, 2018 Full Review Charles Mudede The Stranger (Seattle, WA) But the film, which is raw and gritty, is essentially about the ex-con rebuilding his life in a multi-cultural neighborhood. Kevin L Actor/writer/director Mark Webber stars as a man newly released from prison returning home to his poor neighborhood in Philadelphia. Mark attempts to put together his life and reintegrate into the community, but he struggles with sobriety, while also working to create a bond with his half-brother Guillermo. Then there's mending the troublesome, complicated relationship with his mother, played so well by Cheri Honkala, Webber's real-life mother. Guillermo Santos is impressive as the half-brother dealing with the difficulties of a single parent and his Asperger's condition. Also good is the wonderful Madeline Brewer in a small part. Webber has shown with "Green Room" and other roles that he's a capable actor. This movie shows off his other skills behind the camera and as a screenwriter. It's a small indy-type movie, but well made with character played in several roles by their actual counterparts. 3.3 stars Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member nice slice of life, interesting to use writtenstory with lived experience and family members Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member This film is heartbreakingly beautiful and real. Left me in tears. Well done.Thank you. Go green party! <3 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member The movie bleeds honesty, though its individual components are more memorable than how they're assembled.
