Audience Member Silly Saturday Matinee type of entertainment along the lines of Jules Verne or Sinbad film adaptations. However, this film isn't a classy Ray Harryhausen production, but a cheaply made quickie without anything interesting to offer. The director, Nathan Juran, made some memorable, if not actually "good" films, like "Attack of the 50 Foot Woman" and "Hellcats of the Navy," but this film was bad and not in a so-bad-its-good way. The quality of the film was set by an opening scene where the hero addresses a large gathering at his London explorers society and the only hint that there is a large crowd is that you hear clapping instead of paying for a costumed extras or even some stock footage. Bad special effects, props that all looked as if they were left over from other films and a pretty dumb story about a team in search of Cleopatra's treasure in a hot air balloon.
