      Critics Consensus

Don't watch this alleged comedy looking for more than pained performances in support of ill-advised ageist jokes, because that's all Folks! has to offer.

Rob S This is a dark comedy that my whole family enjoyed when I was a kid and it first came out. It wouldn't sit well currently as the PC culture is pretty strong. Tom Selleck's company is involved in illegal activities, he isn't involved, but no one believes him and the luck just goes down from there. Dark part comes when they decide to claim life insurance money from his father but he's still alive, and mostly senile. Selleck seems to be cursed for going along with such a terrible idea by getting beat/damaged/injured physically, but it never works and no one dies. The movie is both terrible and endearing and it has a happy ending with a nice twist on a misunderstanding of the grandfather's dementia. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/18/23 Full Review Suzann F I loved this movie, I needed to laugh and this was perfect, I watched it 5 times. It's so funny, poor Tom...lol...its an older movie, but keep that in mind and you will enjoy yourself. It might have helped that I dealt with dementia in my Mom, so this was familiar and gave me permission to laugh Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/15/23 Full Review Audience Member I love how Adam Sandler uses christian mingle to collect the hateful 8 and defeat Thanos with the help of Captain neckbeard Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member So Funny...couldn't remember the name of this movie for the life of me then boom I figured it out. Michael Upchurch Seattle Times The film's appeal will depend largely on whether you feel like laughing at senile dementia and automobile accidents. Rated: 1.5/4 May 4, 2014 Full Review Dave Kehr Chicago Tribune [Director Kotcheff] treats material that might have been effective as dark, nightmare comedy as something bright, bouncy and frivolous, an approach that kills all the laughs and turns shock into mere tastelessness. Rated: 1/4 May 4, 2014 Full Review Chris Willman Los Angeles Times Klane has written this one as less of a slow burn, going instead for obnoxiously stunt-filled, madcap farce, all the way to the high-concept-reinforcing title exclamation point. May 4, 2014 Full Review Fernando Morales El Pais (Spain) Very simple and trivial. [Full Review in Spanish] May 2, 2019 Full Review Owen McNally Hartford Courant Folks! stinks! But Robert Klane's screenplay for this fatally flawed, off-beat, black-humored comedy does have some almost redeeming values. Apr 17, 2018 Full Review People Staff People Magazine Don Ameche and Anne Jackson are the parents, and they both look absolutely miserable. Apr 21, 2015 Full Review Read all reviews
