The movie doesn’t criticize the idea that Tomas has to be a hero to be a man. Rather it criticizes him for not being a hero and recuperates him by allowing him to be heroic.

This was a clever, tense, and funny exploration of gender roles and a portrait of a man unravelling. The score is magnificent, all the performances are on point (Ebba is excellent), + it’s got epic meltdown scenes and beautiful shots of the alps.

Using a single dramatic scene as its starting point, this movie uses some ingenious, realistic, spontaneous-looking acting with small passive aggressive behaviors, innuendos and other tiny moments of tension to construct the relational crisis within a typical family of four.

Not a thriller in the traditional sense, but tense nonetheless. Unclear whether Tomas' chance at a heroic redemption was planned or real, but I guess that's partly the point. Could have been shorter than 2 hours but still worth the watch.

Unlike its self-contradicting American remake, this more humane drama isn't only observationally thought-provoking but also actually confronts through the thematic examination benefitting from the performative conviction that potentially stirs discussions, even if it's too poetically focused depicting a contrast demeanor.
