Framing Britney Spears persuasively charted how she got to that point, with reminders of how misogynistic and creepy celebrity culture could be in the Nineties and Noughties. Go to Full Review

The best aspects of ‘Framing Britney Spears’ are implicit while the least effective parts are explicit. And in the absence of a direct commentary from Spears, Stark surely could have used more evenhanded and considerate interview subjects. Go to Full Review

Bella R @broblovesdog Dec 11 Framing Britney Spears is an incredibly well produced documentary. It exposes all the ways in which Britney was manipulated by the media, coerced into performing, and had her autonomy taken away by her own father. It challenged my previous ideas about her conservatorship and it showed me how gendered double standards negatively shaped her narrative. I found this documentary powerful because it dove deep into system issues like female autonomy, mental health, and exploitation. It was shocking to learn about how poorly she was treated and how her story was shifted to making her look "crazy" and "insane". Overall this documentary highlighted how society failed to protect Britney when she was at her most vulnerable state, and I feel like my perspective on this issue has changed for the better after watching it. It contains many valuable clips and footage the demonstrate the real Britney and not the version the media has persented us with for years. I feel that this documentary is very informative on how the media can shape someone's entire image. See more Georgia V @VGeorgia Dec 10 I really enjoyed this film because it showed the reality those in constant lights and cameras can face. I feel like as a society people are quick to judge, and no one takes time to take a step back, and see how their words have an effect on people, even those in fame. This film broke down many parts of Britney Spears life, and it was interesting to see how she became a star. See more Camilla U @Camilla Dec 10 I never was really interested in Brittney Spears, however once we watched this film, I really saw a glance into her life and the performance industry. Seeing her being judged for doing what she loves and things that are considered "outside" the societal norm made me realize how constricting her life is. The film showed the reality of big celebrities not having the perfect life many may think it to be. Overall, we were able to see how the media portrayed her, the misogyny she faced, and the hardships she has had to face throughout her career. However, I had no idea what impact it had. This was an interesting and informal look into Britney's life. Along with giving me new information on her I had no idea about it. See more Brianna N @briwin Dec 8 As a young and female fan, watching Framing Britney Spears gave me a whole new perspective on the control and scrutiny she endured, even as a global superstar. As humorous as some of her "memes" have been in the media, I realized how heartbreaking her downfall actually has been. The New York Times did a great job covering moments of the rise of her stardom while also highlighting the conservatorship and media exploitation that made up her life. Watching it made me genuinely sad, since I’ve been fond of her music and performance, but it also featured her strength throughout her life. By the end, I felt frustrated on her behalf but also inspired. See more Read all reviews
