Obsessive scientist Dr. Pretorius (Ted Sorel) successfully discovers a way to access a parallel universe of pleasure by tapping into the brain's pineal gland. When he is seemingly killed by forces from this other dimension, his assistant, Dr. Crawford Tillinghast (Jeffrey Combs), is accused of the murder. After psychiatrist Katherine McMichaels (Barbara Crampton) and detective Bubba Brownlee (Ken Foree) take the case, the trio risks a return to the other world in order to solve the mystery.

Entertaining effects, acting so 80's over the to. Story is just enough to get you excited and into the movie. Movie had perfect run time in and out 90 months nutes

What a movie. As hard as HP Lovecraft can be to bring to the screen, this movie does it. It has a little bit of everything. This is just so well done! The fantastic, surreal plot kept going to areas I didn't expect. A must watch!!!

Without presumption, it is the closest thing to H. P. Lovecraft's story. It is effective in generating fear and provoking disgust with details that refer to The Fly, and The Thing (1982). It's not a great contribution to the genre but it doesn't disappoint.

A simple and effective horror film smartly paced, gory and full of excellent special effects. Jeffrey combs is perfect for this role even better than the cheesy but fun re-animator. The atmosphere is excellent with a smart script. The best part is this film holds up from the 80's when most films don't.
