Audience Member This is a very in depth look at one in cricket only for England. I was only a kid at the time, but i do recall Ian Botham being a huge personality at the time. And what a man. What a comeback. Watching this has made me now want to get into cricket Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member The story of one of the greatest sporting comebacks, and interesting just for this, but it is virtually the same as a BBC documentary made 15 years earlier. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Makes you proud to be English. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Watched the day after the Tottenham riots, deep into a Conservative services slashing government, , Man City at Wembley in all sky blue - losing, it feels like 1981 all over again. Great job of the iconic Botham's Ashes series by Erskine and team, the docu carries a strong sense of narrative and resists the temptation to be too political by allowing Botham's "Roy of the Rovers" cartoonish persona shine through. Great Brearley portrait and terrific talking heads. Rollicking optimism to a knowing soundtrack. Philip French Guardian It is quite as remarkable as The Damned United, Tom Hooper's film about the rivalry between Brian Clough and Don Revie. May 8, 2011 Full Review Derek Malcolm London Evening Standard There's a bit of hyperbole that suggests the surprise English victory - thanks largely to Botham's heroics - changed English sport forever. But it certainly gave us some unforgettable moments. Rated: 3/5 May 6, 2011 Full Review Andrew Pulver Guardian [An] entertaining if not fantastically enlightening documentary. Rated: 3/5 May 5, 2011 Full Review Tom Dawson Total Film Wider themes of leadership and social class are explored, but it's fundamentally aimed at cricket fans, who'll doubtless relish rewatching Beefy's heroic feats with bat and ball. Rated: 3/5 May 9, 2011 Full Review David Edwards Daily Mirror (UK) It's one of those rare movies sure to appeal to cricket fans and non-fans alike. Rated: 4/5 May 6, 2011 Full Review David Parkinson Radio Times Tom Hardy's narration is occasionally over the top and things peter out before the Oval test, but few cricket lovers will complain.
