After he bombs horribly in front of an influential Las Vegas audience that includes his comedy legend father (Jerry Lewis), aspiring comedian Tommy Fawkes (Oliver Platt) returns to his childhood home of Blackpool, England, to find an unknown young comedian whose act he can take over. There, he meets Katie Parker (Leslie Caron), a singer who was friends with his parents in their youth. Her son, Jack (Lee Evans), is an erratically brilliant comedian who holds a secret about Tommy's father.

characters and story is exciting, love for details, sometimes a bit bit odd but they love to differ

Interesting that audiences like this more than the critics. Personally I think this a little overlooked. It dad passed beneath my radar but a friend spotted it and l glad for it. As is so often the case it is small films like this which are the most memorable.

One of the funniest, sweetest, most nostalgic films ever made. Probably the unfortunate title and horrible print ad campaign killed it (see above image - who wants to see >that< movie?). This is one of those rare films, like Local Hero or Cold Comfort Farm, that will have the viewer yearning for a re-visit. Too many classic scenes to mention. The film probably runs a little long, but I'm stumped at what could possibly be cut. If you love films, this is required viewing. A masterpiece.

Synopsis
