Critics Consensus

Overall, Fury is a well-acted, suitably raw depiction of the horrors of war that offers visceral battle scenes but doesn't quite live up to its larger ambitions.

Udita Jhunjhunwala Livemint The scenes that attempt to humanize the protagonists, while also portraying the darker side of war, are too contrived. But the raw battle scenes are riveting...but you cannot ignore the script's moral high ground. Aug 5, 2019 Full Review Peter Rainer Christian Science Monitor An impressively solid World War II movie of the kind they don't make anymore. Rated: B+ Jan 5, 2015 Full Review Chris Nashawaty Entertainment Weekly While these orgies of violence are staged with tense, gruesome precision, they don't convey much beyond what we already know. Namely, that war is hell. Message received. Rated: C+ Jan 5, 2015 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy Fury depicts the brutality and the insanity of armed combat in punishing, visceral fashion. Lorenzo O Fury is definitely a good movie, yet with many flaws ranging from basic military strategy; like the tiger tank whose main advantage was a longer shooting range than the sherman but for some reason in the movie it goes closer to the sherman rather than distancing it. The finale is even dumber than the tank fighting completely going any kind of basic logic and realism and it was frankly annoying to watch. If you ignore those elements Fury is very pleasant to watch Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/02/25 Full Review Shawnee A Spoiler : I’ve never left a review for a movie in my life but felt compelled to after watching this one and not for good praise. The plot was sufficiently lacking and unrealistic. I tried to muscle through it to finish it but the acting was horrendous and I couldn’t finish the last hour. I’m sorry but the scene where Norman finds Emma so gracefully placed under the fallen bricks of the destroyed building made me laugh. She would have been mangled not looking so angelic with just a slight nose bleed. I really can’t say enough how much I didn’t like this film. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/30/25 Full Review Maria R If you want violence and no substance this is the movie for you. It was supposed to show the grittiness of the war, but looked more like a plain violence fantasy. It was also unrealistic in so many ways. The dialogue, the acting and even the costuming wasn't fitting of the time. I can usually ignore minor mistakes, but this was to a degree that ruined the suspension of disbelief for me. The group we follow were allegedly a tightnit group that respected their leader. This was all told to the audience and then the opposite was shown afterwards. The charcters didn't seem to possess much common sense and even the single character that was supposed to be somewhat likable, really wasn't. And the "romance" subplot, if we can even call it that, was one of the worst cases of romanticising a horrific situation I've seen in a movie in a long time. Just an overall weird, hollywood gone wrong movie. There are many better world war II movies out there, pick one of them. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/24/25 Full Review Andrew E This was sadly what I expected, and what I expected was pretty bad. The characters are too evil in nature. Portraying all soldiers as blood thirsty psychopaths. I couldn't really care much about them. Brad Pitt while being I would say a reasonably skilled actor, was 50 years old when he shot this movie, and looked like it. He looked old. Like someone's grandfather ended up a tank commander, compared to the young people around him. Even compared to the German soldiers that looked younger. While at the start it was fine, but the rest of the plot made no sense. The ending decisions made, made no sense. No one would have ever done what they did at the end. And then the final scene they have the grenade that takes 5 minutes (seemingly) to explode, so that Brad and monologue for no reason. And for no reason whatsoever, toss a completely ridiculous and illogical, and unlikely romantic encounter that didn't fit with any aspect of the movie, followed by a pointless and ridiculous monologue, and then sudden death that also made no sense. It reminds me of Arnold who had it in his contracts to not have pointless romances in the middle of action packed war movies. But it is stupid, and makes the plot worse, and does nothing. If you just want to see some tanks blow up, there are better movies, and videos on youtube than this movie. And contrary to some other claims, I found none of this realistic at all. Fundamentally, a military team works to improve cohesion and respect. Not try and make everyone else in your team hate you in every way possible. That is not how military troops work. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/23/25 Full Review Arthur B Too much blood and gore Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/19/25 Full Review Gustavo P Despite the unrealistic scenes and the Hollywood action, I really liked the movie. My favorite thing about it, it's the REAL king tiger, as a war thunder player i really loved watching the tiger scene and the fact they used a real tiger 1 for the movie it's so sick! I also liked watching the Norman's mentality transformation during the movie and how the movie showed the horror and reality of war. As I mentioned at the start there's some unrealistic scenes on the movie for example the tiger scene, the tiger shoots down the the last tank instead of the first one (but its obvious why they did that because even the director said if the tiger did the logical thing and shoots the first tank, there's no movie). then its also a bit unrealistic how a tiger lost to 4 Sherman, when the tiger was very superior comparing to the American tanks but well its a Hollywood movie. But despite of all that fury stills a good movie and I recommend watching Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/16/25 Full Review Read all reviews
