Critics Consensus

Too straight-faced to have as much fun with its juicy premise as it could, G20 is more pedestrian than presidential but does have a commanding lead in Viola Davis.

Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) Viola Davis is the dealmaker. Sure, she brings an extra dimension of emotional truth and groundedness to the character, but it’s not just that. It’s also what Sutton symbolises. Rated: 3/5 Apr 22, 2025 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) Yep, we’re deep into fantasy territory with this preposterous, dumb-as-rocks action picture. Redeeming it slightly is the consistently impressive Viola Davis, Rated: 3/5 Apr 15, 2025 Full Review Ben Travis Empire Magazine Not exactly a world leader in the action movie stakes – but entertaining enough, particularly thanks to Viola Davis.  Rated: 3/5 Apr 15, 2025 Full Review Rachel Ho Exclaim! Takes itself far too seriously to be any fun, and yet remains too silly to be taken seriously. May 14, 2025 Full Review Giana Levy Refinery29 Through each role, Davis reminds audiences—especially Black women of the power of our limitless being and the brilliance that unfolds when we fully step into it. May 7, 2025 Full Review James Kendrick Q Network Film Desk its debt to the Die Hard School of Spatially Contained Action Heroics is unavoidable, which makes it at times feel overly derivative Rated: 2.5/4 May 6, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Rachel M This movie was somehow simultaneously terrible and good. 👍 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/21/25 Full Review Audience Member Story and unrealism aside. This was an action movie with a predictable plot line. With that said I enjoyed the movie. If your looking for an action movie then you could do worse Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/21/25 Full Review D P Entertaining, but laughable premise all around. Like, what in the Gerald-Butler-Bruce-Willis heck was this story? Secret Service hiring a sub-contractor? Teenagers saving the day? The President going Rambo? A cabinet member and a Secret Service agent committing treason and no one else in Secret Service or the CIA catching it? Be serious! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/18/25 Full Review Kyle M Although “Air Force One” gets “Die Hard” grounded amid formulaic predictability and substantially acceptable sequential deliverance for action-packed satisfactory, it’s solely elevated by Viola Davis’s commanding influence in giving a fiercest presidential performance for circumstantial adaptation – effortlessly overshadowing her unfortunate real-life counterpart who lacks her embodied will. (B) Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/12/25 Full Review Dustin P Cheesy action, predictable plot, but still a fun way to kill a Friday night when nothing going on.
