Audience Member In Phillip's minuscule world, every act ripples through scenes with excitement and significance. Eventually, when the stakes rise and Phillip is called upon to grow out of his shell, the story pays off for all the patient perusing of Herr Baader's sheltered life. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member I happened to catch this at the Goethe Institute in Jakarta, Indonesia. I am very skeptical of romantic comedies, but this one really stands out, so that I'm surprised and disappointed it has no RottenTomatoes reviews. Unlike any Hollywood film I can think of, Up Close With You realistically evokes an introverted and compulsive man, a man verging on autism, though in the end capable of love. Extremely fine, understated acting from Bastian Trost is really key to the film. Katharina Schuettler as Lina the blind cello-playing girl is almost overpoweringly cute. For all cute girls who ended up with men who are good and gentle, yet too often distant or just plain strange, this would make a good date night.
