It has funny moments and de Funès is on good form, but it's brought down by a tendency to repeat the same jokes and by a disregard for plot and logic in order for the humour to work out. In general, the far from fleshed out sci-fi plot is clearly not the priority here, as the fifth, penultimate and up to then weakest "Le gendarme" movie feels like a collection of gags of varying quality, ranging from the well-played and moderately amusing to the unnaturally, artificially farcical.
