Tara Brady Irish Times Writer-director Shuko Murase patiently teases out Itoh's unwieldy and dark themes of political skulduggery, military outsourcing and public apathy. Rated: 4/5 Aug 11, 2017 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian For all its style, there is something unconvincing about this. Rated: 2/5 Jul 14, 2017 Full Review Nikola Gocic Cultured Vultures The production hell has left noticeable scars in the animation quality, but fortunately they are not a major distraction, especially not in the light of the film's disturbing insightfulness. Oct 24, 2019 Full Review Panos Kotzathanasis Asian Movie Pulse "Genocidal Organ" is an impressive anime film that manages to capture some part of the novel's complexity, thus rising above the average of the plethora of action titles. Oct 20, 2019 Full Review Scott Beggs Nerdist Genocidal Organ is a stock military story dressed up in jaw-dropping new clothes. Rated: 3.5/5 Jul 28, 2017 Full Review Toussaint Egan Paste Magazine Genocidal Organ's alternate reality cuts the closest to our own: a world in which the shadow of the past and its assorted traumas holds the future hostage. Thor-Jakob L A philosophical film where the soldier must decide what their duty is while hunting down a man seemingly responsible for multiple genocides. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Late R With a poignant story that feels almost prophetic at times, 'Genocidal Organ' is more of a thinking man's film than you might expect and has a surprising amount of insight, covering a number of issues such as the darker side of politics, ethics and accountability, and doing so in an intelligent, philosophical way. It's quite nicely animated, too. But things go awry when it comes to the characters who are boring and flatly written with little, if anything, about them that qualifies as memorable. Other let-downs include an explanation for the film's events that is a bit of a reach, to say the least; and a lack of thrills which, bearing in mind the narrative, is somewhat justifiable. If you go into it not expecting an action-packed affair, it is interesting and certainly has something to say, but there's no denying the feeling that it just doesn't live up to its full potential.
