Kate Erbland indieWire Pettyjohn's charming performance is the sort of infectious breakout role that makes a film like Girl Flu really get into your system. Audience Member Wow, what a wonderfully written coming of age story. Unable to relate to the primary focus, given that I lack a uterus, they did such a great job creating likable, if flawed, characters and get you emotionally invested in their lives. For young women "experiencing womanhood" for the first time, and their mothers, a definite recommend. It's generally good for woman empowerment, and even has a little, "OMG, I'm dating a mom with a teen/tween daughter" in it. I want to talk about a big moment in the movie, but those are the weakest parts. The strength of the movie is the 95% that is the small things: the dysfunctional family relationships. Those are some of my favorite sitcoms over the years and someone saw how to write those moments into a feature film on top of a first period story. I want to reiterate that the main 3 actors really nailed their roles beautifully. Great movie: I could easily see watching this again sometime. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member I don't really know what to write. 12yr girl that doesn't know what the period is. Isn't funny. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Could have been a much better movie than it was. This is a coming-of-age story about a young girl's first period. Seemed badly acted at times, but yet no reviewers came out criticizing the movie. I wondered if they were afraid to say it for fear of reaction. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Really disappointed with how it seems like more and more movies are promoting kids being so disrespectful to there parents. The mom in this movie was not perfect but I think the mouth on the girl was above and beyond disrespectful. I have 3 daughters 10, 2 & 5 months and honestly I wouldn't let any of them watch this because of how bratty they had the child actor be! I get being on your period but I do not think in any way it permits being nasty, cold, cussing, fighting or many of the other things this movie portrayed for coming of the age! & in know way do I want my girls thinking this behavior is appropriate!I wish there could be a nice clean movie with a child who isn't written to be so horribly disrespectful. The best part was the first 10 mins and then the end it was a very slow movie of watching ridiculous behavior. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Very cute movie all around. Katee Sackhoff is wonderful as the mom. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/30/18 Full Review Audience Member The acting is not great and script limited, the story also not very believable despite the fact that is full of cliches.
