Jacob B After 15 long years, Disney fans can finally get some proper sleep with the release of Glago's Guest on YouTube and the Internet Archive. Completionists will have their dreams plagued by this once-lost-media no more! For those not in the know, this short was screened at Annecy in 2008 but after poor test screenings, plans to attach it with Bolt were cancelled in favour of one of the Cars Toons promotional shorts. Okay, fine. But why deny it any release in any way, shape or form at all? I think the Wikipedia page is the only reason most people even knew of this short's existence. Probably the director leaving for DreamWorks after he and John Lasseter had very different ideas over how to approach the film this short was meant to be attached to. That being said, this short's rather average. The animation looks nice and I suppose some will learn a lesson about not jumping to conclusions and maybe an appreciation of being alive but it's honestly a very straightforward short that lacks the nuance of Pixar shorts or the solid storytelling of Walt Disney Animation Studios' later shorts. I think this can be boiled down to the short having started production before John Lasseter started having a more hands-on role in WDAS features and shorts. Basically, this short was from a time before Disney found their Pixar-free groove with visually stunning, more memorable classics like Paperman and Get a Horse. I didn't hate this short, was just baffled why Disney was determined to keep this short under wraps when it lacks the justifications that other media of the "Mickey doesn't want you to see this" variety have. But I can't be too harsh on Glago's Guest when I'm just grateful that I finally got to see this short and have closure...now what's this I've been hearing about Illumination and Blue Sky Studios having a few missing shorts of their own?
