Calum Marsh New York Times “Glitch” is slyer and smarter than some of its paint-by-numbers dramatized contemporaries, and the story it prefers to tell is more interesting and complex than the battle of two domineering egoists who came up with a novelty app. Jul 20, 2023 Full Review Nick Schager The Daily Beast A breezy non-fiction look back at a phenom that had its 15 minutes—or, at least, enough time to get through an evening’s worth of quiz questions—in the smartphone spotlight. Mar 6, 2023 Full Review Lynn Venhaus Webster-Kirkwood Times (Rogowsky's) narrative is crucial here, for he fills in many blanks. As compelling as it is, though, it’s still not enough for the overall real story. Are we missing a Savage Question? ...The content is lacking, because Yusupov declined to participate, Rated: B Aug 4, 2023 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue Not as fun as winning money on a game show, this documentary nevertheless yields a compelling variation on a familiar corporate cautionary tale. Jul 28, 2023 Full Review Robert Taylor Collider It all just builds to a bit of a shrug, exemplified by the image of Rogowsky blowing leaves off the sidewalk in front of the vintage clothing shop he operates now. Rated: C Jul 25, 2023 Full Review Tara Bennett IGN Movies It's a familiar tale of tech failure, but the details -- and the massive popularity of the app -- make it an interesting one to watch. Joel H I found Glitch: The Rise & Fall of HQ Trivia to be interesting, but I don't think it would be that fascinating to anyone who never played HQ. I didn't have the app back in the day, but my coworkers did and we played it almost every lunch break. It was a lot of fun. I don't remember why we stopped playing, exactly, but this documentary made me wonder if we started seeing the cracks in the system. However, this isn't an objective film. The filmmakers definitely had an angle and they veer off on some random paths. It also doesn't answer some of the big questions I had. Still, it's thought-provoking. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/03/23 Full Review Brett P Max hasn't had the best track record this year with documentaries following the abysmal ‘Bama Rush,' but this was different. I thoroughly enjoyed this documentary and found it very fascinating. Vine was an app I used to use all the time, so it was very cool to see the behind-the-scenes aspect of the app shutting down. HQ Trivia was an app I never used, but I would always hear a lot about it, so I found the behind-the-scenes of that app very fascinating as well. The editing was very clever, and the pacing was excellent. The ending was also surprisingly emotional. This was an overall very informative documentary that taught me so much about these two iconic apps. I definitely recommend this to people have Max.
