Leslie Felperin The Hollywood Reporter This is exactly the kind of film you might chance on while channel surfing in a European hotel and find yourself absorbed by, even though there are no subtitles. Feb 24, 2024 Full Review Guy Lodge Variety The soaring motivational message here wouldn’t be clipped by a little interior conflict on either side, but “Gloria!” is all about chasing the highest of high notes. Feb 22, 2024 Full Review Alan Zilberman Washington City Paper A historical musical set in Italy, Gloria! is a welcome reprieve from the dark and depressing. It unfolds like a riff on Sister Act, but ends with brilliant young things defying the Pope. Dec 5, 2024 Full Review Erick Estrada Cinegarage The film delivers its message, lightly, with poppy cheerfulness. [full review in Spanish] Mar 4, 2024 Full Review Sarah Manvel In Their Own League “Gloria!” is about people finding community in music and in using it to express feelings which are otherwise ignored. It is, with apologies, glorious. Feb 29, 2024 Full Review Lee Marshall Screen International One would need a tough skin not to be won over by the mischievous musical anachronism at the heart of Gloria! and the chemistry of the young female cast that delivers it. Joe F It is not a bad movie, itis worst. They play italian pop music of nowadays in 1800! Why? One on the protagonist is is out of tune, she cant sing at all. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/02/24 Full Review Rebecca R This film, while well-intentioned, feels like a simplistic and kind of cheesy lesson in tolerance dressed up for adults. However, the unique blend of classical and trap music stands out as a lovely and unexpected creative highlight. Some of the camera work and lighting is very good, all of it is fine. The film echoes Les Choristes but lacks its emotional depth, resulting in a calm, formulaic experience. The stakes are low, with no real danger for the protagonists and a predictable happy ending for everyone. The script can be heavy-handed, particularly with a plot point where a character sits on crucial blackmail information until the very end. A jarring moment where a side character’s death is awkwardly turned into a joke, along with a perplexing musical performance involving a suicide note, detracts from the overall impact as it makes you wonder whether you should root for the protagonists at all. Despite these issues, most performances are solid. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/18/24 Full Review Read all reviews
