Christina Newland iNews.co.uk The result is a celebration of homegrown courage, with the vastly overpowered citizens fighting to protect the fragile progress of their rebuilt lives and to banish Godzilla back to the depths of the sea. Rated: 5/5 Sep 17, 2024 Full Review Robbie Collin Daily Telegraph (UK) Yamazaki’s screenplay has subtly framed Shikishima as a stand-in for the nation at large, sloughing off macho Imperial dogma from underneath a suffocating shroud of survivor’s guilt. Rated: 4/5 Jun 3, 2024 Full Review David Sims The Atlantic Godzilla himself takes up only a slim chunk of a run time largely devoted to people running around in awe and horror. That is why Godzilla Minus One is a great film rather than merely an impressive feat of monstrous visual effects. Feb 6, 2024 Full Review Steve Biodrowski Cinefantastique ...goes beyond being a great monster movie to simply being a great movie - heartrending, frightening, and ultimately redemptive. Rated: 5/5 Nov 4, 2024 Full Review Vera Wylde Council of Geeks This is easily, by a pretty wide margin, the best human movie that's ever been in a Godzilla movie. Sep 23, 2024 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand ... a film as much about the legacy of World War II on Japan’s citizens as it is about a giant lizard rising from the sea to wreak havoc on the island nation. jason Now this took Godzilla back to a different level. Epically written and shot. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/09/25 Full Review MrGray This is one of the hands down best Godzilla movies. Period. The setting is absolutely perfect, as we see postwar Japan from a Japanese perspective, not filtered through an American lens. One could say the "monster" is a metaphor for the atomic bomb, and that point is driven home when they describe (and show) Godzilla's fiery breath leaving burned-in images of people on the sides of the buildings left standing. A phenomenon that Hiroshima and Nagasaki survivors described. The characters are well written, and we see growth and acceptance of their new reality, but the movie also gives mankind hope in the face of our nuclear nightmare, and the ending is guaranteed to bring that message home with a vengeance. It's one of the most satisfying, yet believable, movie endings ever. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/03/25 Full Review Mz. Ghostly A Godzilla film too good to sum up in a blurb. From the captivating story revolving around human characters, to the award winning special effects, Minus One stands out in a long history of cinema as one of the best of its respective series. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/25 Full Review Phillip Whats not to like! Another absolute home run for Shin! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/25 Full Review G W BEST Gojira ever. Great screenplay. Oscar worthy! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/08/25 Full Review GandalfCow An absolute GOAT of a movie. literally perfect. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/27/24 Full Review Read all reviews
