Jake Cole Slant Magazine 03/19/2025
The quality of a Godzilla film often resides less in the spectacle of the monster’s tussles with military forces and other kaiju than in the human drama. Go to Full Review

The film can be enjoyed as a standalone, however, with a lot to admire about it, like its creature design of both Godzilla and Biollante, and spy espionage genre action. Go to Full Review

It comes at a significant point for the series, features an all-timer enemy monster for Godzilla to go up against, a pretty mournful plotline that also features lots of spy action, and it all looks great. Go to Full Review

There is certainly a lot to be admired about the way these films were made back then, but sadly it's just not enough to overcome the problems with its messy storylines, resulting in a Godzilla outing that never quite comes together. Go to Full Review

Godzilla vs. Biollante is the type of story that juggles ridiculous ideas with skillful execution and, above all, is incredibly entertaining throughout. Go to Full Review
Rumsey Taylor Not Coming to a Theater Near You 05/22/2019
Biollante would not appear in any other film in the Godzilla franchise, perhaps for practical reasons (she's inherently more ephemeral than other kaiju monsters), but she's among the series' most idiosyncratic nemeses. Go to Full Review

Levi S. @RT51339423 16h Godzilla Vs. Biollante Kaiju Design 5/5 Kaiju Fight 2.5/5 Story Premise 4/5 Story Delivery 2/5 Characters 3/5 Acting 2.5/5 Special Effects 2.5/5 Plot Consistency 1.5/5 Soundtrack 5/5 Character Logic 1.5/5 Sadly this movie suffers from an overly convoluted plot which could have been delivered much better. While I cannot say all the acting was terrible, I felt many times characters didn't act the way they should. Especially when it came to Biollante's creation. Special effects are pretty much what you would expect from Godzilla films at the time, and the Kaiju designs are definitely impressive. Sadly Godzilla has very little screen time, only appearing midway and ending in only 2 fights and an inconclusive ending for the human plot that even contradicts the next movie. I love the music composition from koichi sugiyama and wish he had done more Godzilla movies, however it's not enough to save this movie from having bad plot delivery and story logic. See more Lucky T @Lucky2010 18h Although I enjoy the first film in the Heisei era more than this movie, it's still a good watch overall. The creature design for Biollante has to be one of the best of all time for the Godzilla franchise, and it deserves more love. The opening of the movie is one of the best parts; it is genuinely heartbreaking due to the fantastic acting of Kōji Takahashi, who is easily my favorite character in the film. I really think he should have returned in the following movies. Instead, we got the psychic. I don't hate her, but she's a bit bland. Still, the actress puts in effort—unlike a lot of the American actors in the film, which unfortunately becomes a trend in the next movie. Overall, it's a great second outing for the era. See more Conor T @RT72920782 May 31 I like this film, but Shiragami’s character is poorly written. See more Yash B @yashbansal May 18 "Godzilla vs. Biollante" is an interesting "Godzilla" movie because it blends a human story with a lot of campy vibes. The movie has a good amount of 80s spectacle, which is still a lot of fun to watch. I do feel the story didn't really grab me as much as many other movies featuring the character have, but it is still a decent time. I liked the sci-fi vibe of the story and think it is a unique movie that fans should watch. Overall, it is an okay movie in the franchise that has a lot of technically impressive qualities as well as a campy vibe that is just fun to watch. See more Mikendrick G @GodzillaFOREVER May 8 The whole storyline in my opinion was pretty good, that's what I liked See more Ilyas Z @Zellai Dec 5 It's Better Than Most Of It's Predassecors. Except For: Godzilla vs SpaceGodzilla, And Godzilla vs Destoroyah But It Still Lives Up To The Hype At Least For Me. See more Read all reviews
