Once a UK nuclear power plant's PR man, Pratchett invented an entire world of improbable stories and probable magic; it made more sense. Going Postal is a later book, and one of his best. The benevolent tyrant of the big city orders its biggest thief to pay for his crimes by being Postmaster and restoring the moribund postal service. Yet, that cheeses off the monopolist who runs the telegraph system. The fight is near lost when a miracle occurs and, coincidentally, the thief's unlikely but irrepressible crusader of a girlfriend mobilizes an army of helpful golems. A most unlikely tale explained with assured (if camouflaged) depictions of Western society and human nature that normalizes an enormous, winged gilded hat. David Suchet, as villainous monopolist, steals the show, yet the actors are all very good. The sets, both real and generated, are quite good. Watch 20 minutes and you'll watch it all. See more Sky C @RT77912811 Sep 23, 2024 It's been years since I watched this movie, but I recall three things: 1) the story is good and the acting is good 2) The movie was WAY longer than it need to be 3) The golem creatures were silly, but I think the golems were in the novel, so the screenwriter probably felt compelled to include them in the movie.
