Critics Consensus

Grown Ups' cast of comedy vets is amiable, but they're let down by flat direction and the scattershot, lowbrow humor of a stunted script.

Anna Smith metro.co.uk Granted, Sandler's script has one or two laughs, but it's mostly excruciating and lacks the self-mockery of, say, a Judd Apatow movie. Rated: 1/5 Aug 23, 2018 Full Review Derek Malcolm London Evening Standard Despite some passable gags and a whole posse of middle-aged funnymen, Denis Dugan's comedy is about the least grown-up movie you could see. Rated: 1/5 Sep 1, 2010 Full Review Anthony Quinn Independent (UK) Sandler's abysmal script cooks up a bite-sized moral for the finale. Groan ups, more like. Gemma D Absolutely loved this film, got lots of laughs out of it. It’s my comfort film! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/03/25 Full Review Carter B. Super funny if you like comedy you would love it Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/02/25 Full Review Pramit B Not a cinematic masterpiece, but a hilariously fun film with a loveable cast and some good old slapstick humor. It's one of those movies you can watch over and over again. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/06/25 Full Review azeem h I actually like Grown Ups, yes some of the jokes are very crass and tasteless and there is a lot man child syndrome in the film, which is why I can relate. Yet clearly all the cast are having fun, some of the jokes do land better than others. The arrow roulette scene did raise a laugh as did the joke about old televisions. Overall it was amiable with enough jokes which weren't tasteless to get by sure it's low brow humour but sometimes that's all you need. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/20/25 Full Review Trey G I love these movies as it dosnt care about the haters and ends up with a amazing family comedy with jokes even adults will laugh it I wish they made a third Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/19/25 Full Review Dustin T Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, and Rob Schneider absolutely kill it in Grown Ups. Love it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/11/25 Full Review Read all reviews
