      What to know

      Critics Consensus

Grown Ups' cast of comedy vets is amiable, but they're let down by flat direction and the scattershot, lowbrow humor of a stunted script. Read critic reviews

While it has its moments, this movie is ultimately an unfunny effort from an Adam Sandler who is simply trying to make some extra pocket cash.

An absolutely horrendous film. Not funny, not entertaining, and certainly not well made. The shots are as flat as the script, and the characters don't even mesh well. It's tired comedic stars trying to stay in the game - and failing.

For an Adam Sandler/Dennis Dugan collaboration, "Grown Ups" isn't as horrible as it probably should have been. Of course, it is meandering and plotless and largely unfunny, and I wouldn't recommend it to a single soul, but the cast seems to be having fun with one another and the soundtrack features some great songs. The main problem is that it's a movie meant for men around the same as its characters, but only kids and idiots will find any humor in its "jokes."

Adam Sandler and his entire clan join together for a somewhat-formidable film in Grown Ups. The film presents the solid chemistry that Sandler, James, Rock, Spade and Schneider possess so naturally. But the film becomes loose as it possess no true plot or storyline besides just the characters themselves. Sandler fans will enjoy the film, as comic moviegoers will only find this a decent summer flick. 3.5/5
