Tandem T 12/05/2024 This entertaining film features a group of activists fighting against the erosion of church and state in America. See more dennis d 02/27/2024 Of course the devil is made to look fun and cute and make christians seem like hypocrites and crazy. The fundamental belief in Christianity is self sacrifice. Satanism is worship of the self. We are already seeing what a country full of people that worship themselves looks like. Making light of this topic is disturbing. I'm sure you all think I'm crazy tho because I'm not kissing this films ass and bashing crazy christians huh? See more Alex B 12/20/2023 I loved it! This movie changed how I looked at the separation of church and state, in the fact that it is not. And I am happy there is an organization that is challenging this, even if there ways of doing so is not what would be expected. See more Cowni F 08/21/2023 A super entertaining, humorous look at a (mostly) endearing and misunderstood group fighting for separation of church and state by trying to expose the hypocrisy of christianity-fueled American politics. See more Natalie O 10/08/2022 Hail Satan? is one of those rare documentaries that manages to be both hilarious and razor-sharp, cutting through the noise of America’s endless “religious freedom” debates with wit, style, and a refreshing refusal to bow to piety. By following The Satanic Temple—a non-theistic group that uses cheeky, theatrical activism to expose hypocrisy—it makes an unassailable point: freedom of religion means all religions, not just Christianity, and if that makes lawmakers squirm, maybe the problem isn’t Satan, it’s their selective idea of liberty. What makes the film so effective is its balance of absurdist humor and serious commentary. The Temple’s antics—erecting Baphomet statues, organizing tongue-in-cheek “After School Satan Clubs”—are outrageous by design, but they also highlight just how fragile the Christian nationalist grip on “tradition” really is. Director Penny Lane captures this with a keen eye, showing us the spectacle without losing sight of the substance. The result is equal parts civics lesson and dark comedy. It’s ultimately less about Satan than about democracy, forcing viewers to confront whether they actually believe in pluralism or just in their own team winning. For that reason, Hail Satan? isn’t just entertaining—it’s essential viewing in an era where church-state separation feels more endangered by the day. Final rating: 5 out of 5 pitchforks, proudly waved for the First Amendment. See more Read all reviews
