As the winter of 1867 approaches, Denver inhabitants led by chronic drunk Oracle Jones (Donald Pleasence), who has visions when inebriated, realize with horror that their supply of whiskey will run out before the snows melt. Oracle devises a plan to bring cases of whiskey from a distillery, but is thwarted at every turn. A temperance leader (Lee Remick), three Sioux Indians, and the U.S. Cavalry become interested in the shipment, and a sandstorm and quicksand add to the difficulties.

The tomatoes people rate this film 33% I'm wondering have I watched a different film. As the one I watched is a great film. I'm no lover of comedy films or music's film especially when they're westerns but this film works well. Burt and his mates are marvolous and are so dead pan it's a laugh a minute. Great fun. Too many critics bag the film without knowing how to have a laugh. It's not meant to be serious, that is the point. Enjoyed so much that I went a brought a DVD of the film. Surely we are allowed to be a bit corny every now and then. Lossen up a bit and have a laugh for a few hours in this dreary, over thought world in which we live.

Look this is a silly movie and relaxing fun Lee Remick is so beautiful Burt Lancaster is just a pleasure to watch and perform Donald Pleasance is just a hoot Brian Keith is perfect as the protagonist And Martin Landau - "mission Impossible" is just plain fun as the Indian It is too bad I read they did not have fun on this set as it should have been a walk in the park with laughs to boot in the making. As a kid when this was made I saw it many times and just again 11/2021 enjoyed it piece by piece over a few days to stretch out the plain sillyness and fun. A movie that brings a smile to your face and good dreams, the opposite of - Squid Games.

Goofy fun from the 1960s as a wagon train full of whiskey draws attention from several different if thirsty quarters. The gist of the comedy of this piece is essentially that all of the actors overplay whatever distinction their character embodies. Warning: there are inappropriate Native stereotypes aplenty and w/o shame. For that matter all of the stereotypes in this, and all the characters are stereotypes, and are probably offensive across the board. But the aim is lighthearted comedy, perhaps forgiving the portrayals. Its cute.
