Mescal, rightly, takes a back seat while Buckley lets rip with the most astounding ferocity. It is ruthlessly manipulative and maybe you will be able to resist. But I’d take a hanky all the same.

The film’s storyline is more straightforward than the book’s and its main points are spelt out more emphatically but if the plot loses some of its delicacy on screen, the impact of its ending makes up for it.

Had so many things I love in a film, and Zhao’s direction is also beautiful: it’s so fresh and atmospheric and impressionistic. I just wish I liked it more. … [Buckley] goes off-chops in the final sequence. It’s kind of silly … but I didn’t want to laugh…

This is the 2nd time I've seen Hamnet, and I'd watch it again tomorrow. One if the best movies I've ever seen. I myself am an actor. This movie is a Tour de Force. An acting lesson. Truly remarkable. Run, don't walk to the theater it should win all awards it nominated for.

There were two moments in the film that moved me especially deeply. One was the mother’s raw, heart-wrenching cry after the loss of her son. As a mother myself, I felt it profoundly. The second was when Shakespeare’s wife goes to London to watch Hamlet performed—her initial anxiety and anger when she cannot see her son on stage, and then her gradual release as she witnesses how deeply the audience is moved by her husband’s work. The emotional contrast was handled with great strength and sensitivity.

This movie was incredibly slow paced. The acting was great, but it lost me when they were quoting Shakespeare. Might as well have been in Russian.

What a hauntingly beautiful perspective on the Shakespeare family. Big fan, but truly enjoyed how William was a secondary piece. Loved it.
