Kevin Thomas Los Angeles Times A beautiful-looking film with accomplished performances all around, Hania is head and shoulders above most Christmas movies, though is too intense for younger children. Rated: 4/5 Dec 12, 2008 Full Review Adam Nayman L.A. Weekly There is more to movies than pretty pictures. And make no mistake, Hania is plenty pretty. Dec 11, 2008 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member pretty to look at but boring. horrible dialogue, sounds unnatural. and there are a lot of unnecessary shots (Warsaw at night, Christmas tree, etc.). also, cliched, predictable and not very well structured. not a complete waste of time but nothing to write home about... Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member HANIA is masterpiece! Its multi-layered structure can be understood only as the story progresses and the director's as well as the operator's intention of shifting from an irritatingly rushed passage of short sequences to gradually slower and slower ones under the impact of the boy's influence on the couple's life become clear. In the acting of the main characters existed this same progressive adjustment to the kid's marvelous magical world of absolute love and timeless tranquility. The same 'husband who, initially, struck me as 'drewniany', 'sztuczny' , and utterly unlikable, became deeply moving in his gradual sublimation. And the same went for the wife, although she was visibly much sooner attuned to the spiritual happening. As for the boy: he was simply perfect and equally perfectly directed - without pathos, without any unnecessary melodrama. His face, transcended by absolute love, reflected the Christmas miracle will remain vividly in my mind.
