In 1908, Korean independence fighters led by Ahn Jung-geun, achieve a significant victory in a battle against the Japanese army in Sina Mountain, near the northern border of Korea. Lieutenant General Ahn Jung-geun of the Korean Independence Army, upholding the principles of laws of war, releases Japanese war prisoners. However, this action gives rise to suspicions about him, causing fractures within the ranks of the independence fighters. A year later, a group of like-minded activists - Ahn Jung-geun, Woo Duk-soon, Kim Sang-hyun, Ms. Gong, Choi Jae-hyung and Lee Chang-sup - determined to reclaim their homeland, gathers in Vladivostok. Upon learning that Ito Hirobumi, the Japanese statesman and the first Japanese resident-general of the occupied Korea, is heading to Manchuria for negotiations with Russia, Ahn and his men set their course for Harbin. The Japanese army, armed with intelligence on the resistance operation, promptly initiates pursuit... The rift has begun, but we must go to Harbin.

Siddhant Adlakha Variety A visually striking period drama... En route to [its] engaging climax, Woo also introduces a mystery element that keeps the wheels of the story turning, even when it may not have enough steam. Oct 2, 2024 Full Review Robert Daniels Screen International What Harbin lacks in memorable characters, it more than makes up for in its staging and craft. The action is beautifully composed. Sep 13, 2024 Full Review Sarah Musnicky But Why Tho? A Geek Community Woo Min-ho’s prioritizing of the plot over its characters leaves this inspiring, tension-driven tale feeling a little hollow. And that’s a dang shame because, without taking that into account, Harbin is a competent, thrilling film. Rated: 6.5/10 Sep 23, 2024 Full Review Sarah Marrs Lainey Gossip It's understandable to tell the story of a national hero with some degree of reverence, but the shallowness of Harbin hurts what is an otherwise entertaining spy thriller. Sep 14, 2024 Full Review Giovanni Lago Next Best Picture "Harbin" does what it needs in its quest to engage viewers. However, the subject matter is so fascinating, and to only make a semi-entertaining spy film is not enough to pass with flying colors.  Rated: 6/10 Sep 12, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews
