Marvin T This is an underrated Jackie Chan film. It really tugs at the heart strings, and it's really emotional. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/20/23 Full Review DanTheMan 2 Heart of Dragon treads a fine line between utterly insane, bordering on offensive and incredibly heartfelt. It's two parts a family drama about two brothers where Chan and Sammo seem to be acting in two different films, before switching gears into the typical Hong Kong action extravaganza for the finale which is more than welcomed; if anything that film does have is one of the coolest pencil cases I've ever seen. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Refers to the original Hong Kong version. I found the overall tone of this film a little jarring. The heart is there as Chan plays a police officer who has sacrificed his own dreams to care for his mentally disabled brother, played by Sammo Hung who also directs, and the daily struggles that they both endure. Then almost as if someone suggested that a Jackie Chan film wasn't a Jackie Chan film without any action, especially if Jackie is playing a cop, a criminal kingpin and some stolen jewellery are thrown into the mix and Hung is kidnapped to raise the stakes. Overall the performances are good, the stunts and action choreography are excellent. But the tone just doesn't sit right and the two halves don't gel. This is possibly why the 'International Version' added two additional fight sequences. Also the less said about some of the haircuts and eyebrows the better. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member Touching and also rather unique action movie. Sammo Hung is retarded brother of Jackie Chan. But he don't know it is just tips money. He act as their father. When the bill came, they only have $16. The kids all escape and Sammo is beaten up. He hide in the freezer and refuse to open. Jackie climb through the shaft to save him. Anthony Chan is Sammo home teacher and scold him badly. Jackie overheard and dismiss him. His dream is to be a sailor. Another kid ask Sammo to act as his dad to meet the principal. He keep repeating the same words and he know it is fake. James Tien is a gang boss who just got hold of a bag of gold. Jackie and gang stomp in but Chung Fat escape with it. Sammo is playing catching with the kids and he scare Chung unintentionally. He drop the bag and run off. They decide to hide his bag because they thought Sammo act is robbery. James thought Chung wanna sell the gold on his own and send his killers Dick Wei and Philip Ko to kill him. Chung manage to escape and is willing to be witness against James. Melvin ordered him to be under police protection. One of the kid brother Tai Po is ask by police if he saw Sammo. The kid and Sammo go retrieve the bag. Tai follow and rob the bag, beat Sammo down the hill. Chung saw the news and say Sammo is the "police" that got his bag. Tai want to sell the gold but Dick beat him up. Melvin lead a team to catch Sammo. Jackie block their way and he run away. The baddies caught Sammo hiding at Tai home. James want to trade Chung with Sammo. Jackie have no choice but to go against order to get Chung out. He get his ex SWAT friends for help (Yuen Wah, Chin Kar Lok, Chan Lung) Together they storm into the meeting place. Jackie have to fight Dick and many to save Sammo. Chung is shot dead. The police arrived and Jackie and friends go to jail. They release earlier and help to take care of Sammo. Jackie is release and take care of Sammo. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member This is the only Jackie Chan movie to make me cry. Great performances from Chan and Hung that elevated it from being a simple kung fu flick. Much more of a drama than an action film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Alexander W This was a really well acted, touching film. Not fist, or art, but heart of dragon.
