Derek Malcolm London Evening Standard This, like the first Hellboy, is del Toro on holiday in Hollywood, having as much fun as he can without totally compromising his considerable powers of invention. Dec 8, 2014 Full Review Paul Byrnes Sydney Morning Herald Hellboy II is fabulously imaginative, visually sumptuous and dramatically complex; what's more, it's very funny and engaging. Rated: 4/5 Dec 8, 2014 Full Review Jonathan Romney Independent (UK) The film's exuberance, and the sense that it's all one big gimmick-packed action toy, give Hellboy II: The Golden Army a refreshing cinematic purity. Dec 8, 2014 Full Review Fico Cangiano CineXpress Podcast Full of imaginative creatures and settings, Del Toro lets loose on this fun sequel that improves what came before. Ron Perlman is perfect as the cocky hero with a heart. Blu B A Deep Cut Superhero Classic. This does pretty much everything a sequel should. The biggest problems of the first are fixed here across the board and it's just a superior movie in every which way. Gone is the forgettable dude from the first one and it's clearly Hellboy's movie. This is so much more focused and refined and does a really good job mixing the saving the world plot with the character development in a much more cohesive less jumpy way. The villian is really good also and not just a cool design but has actual depth. Everything honestly fundamentally speaking is really well executed here. The CGI is solid across the board and way more consistent. The creature designs are so awesome and the fact it's all practical is just amazing and gives it such a distinct look along with the use of tons of practical sets and not a whole lot of green screen compared to 2010's Marvel movies. That combined with GDT's direction and style really gives it a distinct look just like the first. Pearlman is even more comfortable and having fun with the character as well. Same can be said really with everyone is just more comfortable it feels like. Love Abe in this also. The action is really well done also and has lots of variety just like the first. Love the creative set designs too. The only thing is there is an attempt to add some commentary I think but it gets lost in between everything and the character development is simplified at the expense of making it more cohesive. It's just the same save the world plot as the first to but it's done so well that it doesn't matter at all. Anyone who is a fan of the director, the first one, action movies, superhero flicks, or even fantasy movies should check this out. Stands as one of the best Superhero sequels in terms of being universally superior than the first entry. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/10/25 Full Review thiago s Filme fraco, o roteiro é fraco, as cenas são fracas, a história é fraca, o elenco é fraco, e ninguém ajuda a melhorar o filme, os personagens são fracos, e o filme deveria ter cenas bem melhores e relevantes, para fazer o filme ser bom Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/03/25 Full Review Hunter G. Great fantasy film that unfortunately cinema will never get the full trilogy closure that it deserves. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/21/25 Full Review Miles O You can tell this film had a much bigger production budget due to the first film's success; it totally paid off. This film is still wicked to watch in 2025, just so sad Guillermo del Toro didn't get to finish the triology it was intended to be. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/15/25 Full Review Daniel C. M Although the film suffers from a contrived and, quite frankly, clichê script and plot, Hellboy II is a eye-catching spectacle that greatly benefits from Master Del Toro's visionary direction that features great humor, lovable characters and respectable world building. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/18/25 Full Review Jorge R This has to be my favorite Hellboy movie! The Golden Army is Awesome, Funny and Visually Outstanding. A Masterpiece From Guillermo del Toro. 🤩 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/02/25 Full Review Read all reviews
