Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald It’s all too much. The horrors are piled on in such quantities that any possibility of being scared or even slightly repulsed soon evaporates. Rated: 2/5 Oct 11, 2024 Full Review William Bibbiani TheWrap Taylor envisions a Hellboy where the horror matters more than the humor or poetry or romance or even the good vibes, and he’s made a film that proves his take is valid. pudgy p I enjoyed the film to a certain point, it could have done a lot more with the plot. The witches were just extra set dressing and could have been utilized. Hellboys actor wasn’t bad and played the role decently (he ain’t no Ron though). One of my biggest pet hates with the film is that they do the super close shots with blur and focus pulls way too much. Really lost its impact after the 20th time of doing it. Overall the film is decent for a low budget flick, could of been better but I enjoyed the horror-super natural take within hellboys universe Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/28/25 Full Review Bite m Old style horror, making the best of affordable plots and special effects. The budget is low, but the story is great, sending you straight into the lore of this creepy Witch infested mountain town, and Hell boy lore. The actor and make up for Hell boy is good. But people will compare him to Ron Perelman none the less. But i think the actor is a good fit, in my humble opinion, and would love to see another movie with him in it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/28/25 Full Review Ray S Far better than the rating suggests. The horrors abound and it's practically nonstop, but it's well written and well directed. I really enjoyed it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/27/25 Full Review Audience Member Good film. I’ve always liked Hellboy films and people/critics giving it a bad rap I would say just don’t get it. Anyway this film in particular lent itself more so to the horror of evil. It still kept its fun aspect but the previous three were a lot more “fun” (in quotation marks) I can’t much remember 2019 other than it wasn’t quite as good as the first two and felt a bit rushed but had some great costumes and scenes overshadowed by its ending. Hellboy is completely different in ‘The Crooked Man’ he hardly uses his fist of doom which is on one hand a shame but on the other befitting to this film which as I reaffirm is a lot more horror focused and probably has one of the better story lines to follow on from. Good film. We don’t always need the Christmas trees and glamour. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/26/25 Full Review Paddy S I really enjoyed this film. It felt way more like what I expected Hellboy’s world to be - dark, supernatural, & tense. I also liked that this version of Hellboy wasn’t a snarky jerk like in the older movies. The visuals & atmosphere nailed the eerie vibe, & the pacing was great, with enough slower moments to let the characters breathe between the action. The story kept me hooked the whole time, & even though I went in blind, I was pleasantly surprised. No scene stood out as a favorite, but the way the occult and supernatural elements were handled was really cool. The dialogue felt natural, and the ending was satisfying. Overall, this is my favorite Hellboy movie so far, and I’d totally recommend it to anyone into supernatural, horror, or action films. Really hope for more like this! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/25/25 Full Review Travis M I really enjoyed this movie. The first ten minutes are pretty janky, but once the movie hits its stride, it doesn't look back. Definitely super weird and horror heavy compared to the other films. I'd love to see more of this Hellboy! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/25/25 Full Review Read all reviews
