Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald It’s all too much. The horrors are piled on in such quantities that any possibility of being scared or even slightly repulsed soon evaporates. Rated: 2/5 Oct 11, 2024 Full Review William Bibbiani TheWrap Taylor envisions a Hellboy where the horror matters more than the humor or poetry or romance or even the good vibes, and he’s made a film that proves his take is valid. Oct 10, 2024 Full Review Siddhant Adlakha Variety It has the look of YouTube fan film — not to mention the excess fidelity. Oct 9, 2024 Full Review John Serba Decider Nothing in The Crooked Man compels us to feel invested in this story, which lacks suspense, dramatic momentum and a sense of pacing. May 8, 2025 Full Review Grant Hermanns Screen Rant Brian Taylor's Hellboy: The Crooked Man certainly strives to feel different from the previous movies, but comes with the cost of also feeling dry. Rated: 4/10 Mar 20, 2025 Full Review Adrian Ruiz But Why Tho? A Geek Community Hellboy: The Crooked Man makes a valiant effort to adapt Mike Mignola’s 2008 comic, but ultimately, it falters under the weight of its changes. Terriana S There is way too much CGI and it’s not even that good, the creepy music plays on for way too long even if there’s nothing scary happening. No wonder they don’t even tell anyone about the movie even existing it’s so bad. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/03/25 Full Review Pinoy Short R Sayang oras. Ok un idea na dark, horror na Hellboy pero very evident un pagka low budget nya. Oks din un acting pero kinulang sa story ideas Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/30/25 Full Review Alec B Low budget folk horror Hellboy works better than you'd expect, especially with Brian Taylor's inventive style (If this guy was ever given a huge budget, I wonder what we'd get?) which pushes the limits of what we typically see in comic book adaptations. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/30/25 Full Review Samuel S Great film! The BEST Hellboy since Ron, i really dont understand the bad reviews! I think most hellboy fans are fans of the original films and not the actual comics, THIS IS HELLBOY! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/20/25 Full Review Logan D On route to deliver a captured arachnid, Hellboy (Jack Kesy) and his partner (Adeline Rudolph) are sidetracked by an outpouring of evil in a small town. Note: I read the initial Hellboy comics in the mid 90s but barely recall them. I have the impression, though, this film is closer to the source material than the other live action films. Beginning with the end of another, unseen, story, the film wastes little time getting to the situation that defines this film. Rural dread, grotesque rituals, and psychological fragmentation are portrayed thru a suspense-filled lens that is different than Del Toro's approach. This film is the darkest of the live action films but sadly also has an uneven script and some low budget CGI. If you value folk horror ethics you'll likely enjoy it. The acting is commendable, especially Kesy and Rudolph, excepting Kesy's annoying OCD with his character's cigars. I found it too obvious. Major kudos to Jefferson White as Tom Ferrell, a local who made a pact with the title villain. He adds emotional texture. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/17/25 Full Review Kashgar A I don’t understand. The whole movie was about a fight in a church? Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/04/25 Full Review Read all reviews
