Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald It’s all too much. The horrors are piled on in such quantities that any possibility of being scared or even slightly repulsed soon evaporates. Rated: 2/5 Oct 11, 2024 Full Review William Bibbiani TheWrap Taylor envisions a Hellboy where the horror matters more than the humor or poetry or romance or even the good vibes, and he’s made a film that proves his take is valid. Oct 10, 2024 Full Review Siddhant Adlakha Variety It has the look of YouTube fan film — not to mention the excess fidelity. Oct 9, 2024 Full Review Alistair Lawrence Common Sense Media But whereas previous Hellboy movie outings have been colorful, boisterous affairs, Hellboy: The Crooked Man never rises above being a dimly lit, bargain-basement offering. Nov 4, 2024 Full Review Aaron Neuwirth We Live Entertainment When committed to the horror component, the film works well enough. Still, the time between “scares,” let alone the minimal amount of action, leaves much to be desired. Rated: 4/10 Nov 1, 2024 Full Review Austin Burke Austin Burke/Flick Fan Nation While the attempt at building a mysterious and creepy atmosphere around Hellboy is admirable, the execution is lackluster across the board. The editing is clunky, the interactions are awkward, and the pacing is too slow to get any momentum going. Rated: 4/10 Oct 28, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Silvana B Pra mim o melhor filme do hellboy já feito Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/16/24 Full Review Santa S Red looks like a bad joke ! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/16/24 Full Review Audience Member I didn’t really hate this movie. Let’s talk about Hellboy: The Crooked Man, a new adaptation directed by Brian Taylor that feels like a fresh and hot-off-the-press version of Hellboy, showing him as a rookie detective in his early days— inexperienced and making many mistakes. Personally, I really liked its indie style. The story, while adapted from the comic of the same name, is fairly faithful to the original material, maybe not in the way many expected, but that’s one of the film’s positive aspects. I also want to highlight Jack Kesy’s performance as Hellboy. While it’s not the definitive portrayal of the character, it’s decent, and you can tell he made an effort to bring Hellboy to life in a respectful way. Another standout is Bobbie Jo Song, Hellboy’s companion. Throughout the movie, we see how they support each other, developing interesting chemistry that, unfortunately, doesn’t quite fully materialize by the end. However, despite these strong points, the movie has some major issues. The narrative development is slow and sometimes boring. There is an over-explanation of information, making the viewing experience exhausting and dull in several parts. The villain, The Crooked Man, doesn’t appear until the last 40 minutes of the movie, and his impact is minimal. As an antagonist, he feels inconsistent and weak during his appearances, which detracts from the story. One of the weakest aspects of the film is the secondary characters. The acting is poor, and the development of these characters is so generic that they feel unnecessary. The special effects are another low point, as they often appear poorly executed, leaving viewers with a bitter taste during scenes that should have been more impactful. The cinematography and staging fail to stand out, and the costumes lack originality, sticking to something quite generic. In summary, Hellboy: The Crooked Man has good intentions and some strengths in its style and main performances, but it’s weighed down by a script that can’t maintain its pace, forgettable secondary characters, and a production that leaves much to be desired. Although it was anticipated to be a low-budget film from its announcement, this becomes apparent in every aspect of its execution. Despite its potential, it turns into a tedious experience that will likely struggle to captivate audiences, except for the most loyal fans of the character. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/16/24 Full Review Kristina B I believe it was the best Hellboy! I would love to see a second movie made. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/14/24 Full Review Florian S I don't know what to say... It's not funny, I'm not afraid and who know who's Jack Kesy? It's just a joke a big "Nanar" like we say in France. Please don't buy this "film"... he's not worth a cent... So disappointed ... Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/14/24 Full Review Jason M I think this was thee best Hellboy! This is the way it was meant to be seen and the way it is supposed to be portrayed. I loved it and I am definitely looking forward to another chapter of this Hellboy.
