Critics Consensus

Hereditary uses its classic setup as the framework for a harrowing, uncommonly unsettling horror film whose cold touch lingers long beyond the closing credits.

Neil Just immaculate, looking, slow, burning, unique, psychological piece of horror Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/30/24 Full Review James M I love this movie. it's not for everyone but if you like creepy slow burning stuff check it out! I've watched it 5 times Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/25/24 Full Review Brandon As neutral a view of the accident as can be Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/08/22 Full Review Audience Member Soooo, interesting movie, a hell of a plot and overall GOD DAMN CREEPY AND ANNOYING! There's much to say about this but I'll try to be short... Milly's performance scares me how good it was, not to belittle the rest but in terms of creppiness, she is good. The overall feeling you get watching this? It feels like you wake up with cockroaches walking on your face, creppy and annoying. Doesn't really scare you, it just makes you feel like you want to turn off the TV and watch puppies dance. Why not 5 stars then? Because the story was hard to catch, and it wasn't fluid enough, there were still many questions left and the rules didn't seem to apply even for that universe. 4 stars is still pretty damn good if you ask me. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/25 Full Review Audience Member Una de las mejores películas de terror que eh visto, su final te deja con una sensación muy escalofriante. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/21/25 Full Review SkyRo P I finally decided to watch the horror film "Hereditary" after putting it off for quite some time. I have to be honest: I was initially deterred by the appearance of the young girl who plays the malevolent entity. She’s prominently featured on the cover, and I mistakenly thought she was a main character, which made me hesitant to dive in. I know that sounds harsh, but I found her presence unsettling, and it kept me from watching the film sooner. However, once her character's influence is diminished, the movie takes a fascinating turn. While she does play a pivotal role in the eerie atmosphere with her unsettling sounds, the film delves into darker, more sinister themes. "Hereditary" is undeniably haunting and demonic, making it a solid addition to the horror genre. It’s not something I’d want to revisit frequently—perhaps just once every few years—but the director certainly took bold risks in crafting this chilling narrative. The dialogue in the film felt somewhat cheesy at times, yet it oddly fit the overall tone. One thing that stood out to me was the teenage son, who looked more like a grown man, calling for his "mommy." It struck me as odd and somewhat uncomfortable given his age. Nonetheless, I believe it's a remarkable film, and I would definitely recommend it to others. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/25 Full Review Read all reviews
