After their master dies, servants Thomas (Brendan Dillon) and Devon (Kate Manx) and their children become homesteaders on a coastal island. But when Thomas is murdered by villainous settlers hoping to claim the land for themselves, Devon must raise the kids -- and fight off more attacks -- by herself. Luckily, however, she gets help from Jacob (James Mason), a mysterious shipwrecked stranger, and Nicholas (Rip Torn), a kindly sailor and slave ship escapee.

Audience Member Weak acting performances and what appears to be a low budget production. The storyline appears to be a study of a needed drift from pacifism to violence. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member 83% "I am the devil!"-Jacob "Blackbeard" Weber (James Mason) I was looking for another SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON, of course it wasn't, but it wasn't that bad ether. "God and us and the land."-Devon Mainwaring (Kate Manx) Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member There's some nice location scenery to look at and James Mason delivers a decent performance as do some of the supporting players but this moves at a crawl for the first hour and even when it picks up towards the end it still isn't that exciting. The main actress is stiff and uncharismatic a major defect since so much of the story revolves around her. If you're a fan of pirate movies there are many others that would satisfy better than this, Blackbeard the Pirate with Robert Newton and Linda Darnell chief among them.
