J. R. Jones Chicago Reader [Critic Rüdiger Suchsland is] a careful and observant critic. Apr 8, 2020 Full Review Michael Phillips Chicago Tribune There's a great deal to process and absorb here. We are the images we make of ourselves and our times, for better or worse. Rated: 3.5/4 May 10, 2018 Full Review Kenneth Turan Los Angeles Times A sad story all around. May 10, 2018 Full Review Javier Ocaña El Pais (Spain) A remarkable work around aesthetics, ethics and even the legitimacy of barbarism through themes and developments during this era of German filmmaking. [Full Review in Spanish] Oct 28, 2019 Full Review Toni Vall Cinemanía (Spain) A must for all types of audiences. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 4/5 Sep 23, 2019 Full Review Pat Mullen POV Magazine Hitler's Hollywood is as thorough and informative as a Master Class seminar, if as dry as Melba toast, and the collage of classic images presents snippets of film history that are both beautiful and unsettling. Michael E A fascinating subject made boring by a tedious and didactic narration delivered in a funereal tone by Udo Kier, who refuses to allow the images to make an impression without his patronizing explanations of what we are seeing. Anyone who chooses a film like this is probably sophisticated enough not to require his unceasing professorial lecturing. The documentary also jumps at random from one time period to another and fails to develop critical themes in a consistent and orderly fashion. I gave up after half an hour. Very disappointing. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/21 Full Review Audience Member Fascinating documentary about the films made in Nazi Germany A lot if the films subvert the regime and those that don't look like nothing else But at the forefront is the knowledge that it was a state controlled genre and that state was purely evil when the War finally came Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/18/18 Full Review Audience Member The film sets out its' agenda clearly in the first 10 minutes. It then goes on for an additional 136 minutes meandering back and forth through the Nazi regime showing examples of the psychological games it played with the German population to build pride in what the Nazis were doing. It could have been done in a shorter period of time. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews
