Kevin Thomas Los Angeles Times This Hollywood is indeed slight, yet at times it is amusingly credible, clearly informed by Rose's own experiences over the last eight years. Rated: 3/5 Nov 10, 2006 Full Review Tim Grierson L.A. Weekly Hollywood trots out every reach-for-the-stars banality for one more excruciatingly tedious portrait of up-and-coming thespians trying to make their way in show biz. Audience Member It's not all that often that a movie can move me to tears, and literally make me fall out of my chair in laughter, but this little masterpiece did the trick. Never heard of this movie? I hadn't either, but good buddy Roger Ebert suggested I check it out, and so I did. Here is a plot summary. (I know, I know, parts of it seem ridiculous, unbelievable, but it is supposedly based on real events.) "Hollywood" is the story of a woman who moved to Alaska in the 1990s with just a tent and a camera. After several weeks of doing basically nothing, except listening to her beloved ABBA tapes, the woman, Michelle Douglas, began to hear noises in the woods, late at night. These were, of course, the howls of wolfmen. I won't go into more detail, but suffice to say this was the beginning of a true love story, between Michelle and the furry little guys. I only object to the cinematography (too much jerkiness; apparently she relied on local woodchucks and gerbils to do the filming), and the sad ending. I don't think it's giving anything away to say that, you guessed it, something (or someone) was eaten. I highly recommend this movie, although viewers should be warned it contains gratuitous nudity, and a cameo by Kristen Stewart. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews
