Frank Scheck Hollywood Reporter As messy and unstructured as the inner life of its central character, Homemakers boasts an uncommonly ragged indie sensibility in its portrait of a disaffected young woman struggling with issues of self-identity. Oct 16, 2015 Full Review Daniel M. Gold New York Times Ms. McKeon throws herself into this amped, exhausting role, but in the end, as her bandmates know, a little Irene goes a long way. Oct 15, 2015 Full Review Emma Tilden Bust Magazine Healey has very consciously attempted to avoid catering to the male gaze, and (no surprise here) the film is all the better for it. Oct 26, 2016 Full Review Ray Pride Newcity A life of blaze and haze in search of simple contentment, with dear human complexity, caught in a funny, ragged, raucous, even joyous capsule. Audience Member Like the film itself, Rachel McKeon delivers a rebellious, goofy and rage fueled performance. It is as if she feels the need to leave her mark on every single bit of space within which she walks. In a drunken moment of clarity our protagonist decides to stand her ground. "This is my mess," she declares. And she is correct. This mess belongs to her and she is fighting to not only belong but to fully own her place in life. Fitting in or conforming is of no importance. It is the establishing of her own unique space and finding others with which to share it are all that matters. Irene's house is a mess, but it is slowing forming into a state of stability whether she fulling understands that is unanswered. Colin Healey's film is a wild mess that celebrates life rather than exploiting it. This is an amazing film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews
