Dan R How many film studios have seen a successful film concept and then tried to copy it for themselves? Well 2008's 'Horsemen of the Apocalypse', or just 'Horsemen', is exactly that. SYNOPSIS: 'A recently widowed detective still grieving over his wife's death discovers a shocking connection between a serial killing spree and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.' This is 'Seven' lite. The problem being this film isn't very good and it doesn't matter how many bodies are stacked up in gruesome and cruel ways, that's not going to change anything. It's grim, ridiculous and lacking in anything of substance. If we're supposed to feel something positive towards Quaid's character it's just not happening here. He's a grumpy old man who's a shitty Dad, who puts his work first. Sounds familiar though eh!? Predictable and clichéd. Avoid. 3/10 Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/09/24 Full Review Tony B An intriguing, uncomfortable and off beat film that is perfectly paced with low level tension punctuated by gut punching scenes of horror. Similar in tone to Seven… (utilising biblical references in the form of the 4 Norsemen) and just as gruesome… very good. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/11/23 Full Review James s It's a movie that should have been better. The script needed tweaking to raise it above the predictable. The cinematography tried too hard to be interesting or noir; it was simply distracting with random close ups, fish eye lenses, overhead, etc. sometimes all of these within the space of ten seconds. Probably intended to disorient the viewer. Purposeless and ineffective. Quaid and Zhang and the supporting cast are better actors than this. Vale apena assistir? uhhhhh Nota: 5 Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/31/23 Full Review Bruno V Filme ruim demais; se eu pudesse voltar no tempo eu nem assistiria. Jordan Mintzer Variety Riding in on the four ponies currently plaguing the Hollywood horror-thriller -- overstylized torture, whiplash editing, compulsive script reversals and crude neon lighting -- Horsemen brings its herd home to pasture in strictly predictable fashion. Apr 16, 2009 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review About twenty minutes were cut from the International Release of this film; perhaps they contained whatever narrative glue was needed to make this a cohesive drama. Rated: 2.5/4 Jul 31, 2009 Full Review Brian Orndorf DVDTalk.com A grim picture, but utterly ridiculous; a film encouraged by its own sense of misery, though in service of a director who botches the delicate balance between procedural nightmares and familial concern.
