Audience Member just ok bedroom farce Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review s r Alec Guinness is brilliant. It also has great period pieces and sets. It is a bit over the top, but it's all in good fun. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member In terms of an historical study of surban France in say 1910, this is a very interesting film - fabulously decorated buth tubs, horses pulling carts, getting in the way of new fangled motor cars, men wearing suit jackets where only the top button is done up, women wearing lace and corsets. I think it is fair to say that the farce loses something in its translation (this was originally a French play by Feydeau), and also something in the 46 years since it was produced, but there are some fabulous dynamics - Guiness is not the weak husband, but shows a deal of spirit and backbone in escaping his house, his mistress Lollobrigida is not the completely supine and willing muse, indeed I think had they been given all the time and space in the world she would still have kept her clothes on. Also the titillation was of a peculiar nature, women nearer retirement than their fortieth birthdays were the ones undressing and frollicking in basques - an acquired taste no doubt. Interesting as timewatch, but I cannot say I was entertained. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
