Jacob Oller AV Club The haunted restaurant horror tosses plenty into the pot, but the half-developed flavors rest uneasily on the palate. Rated: C- Oct 25, 2024 Full Review Alison Foreman indieWire House of Spoils should mainly be recommended for bringing an unusual spectral essence to a dish you might otherwise turn down. You won’t want seconds, but it’s worth the taste test even picked for parts. Rated: B- Oct 4, 2024 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News “House of Spoils” is a cut above most recent Blumhouse movies and is observant to the insane pressures of the restaurant biz. Rated: 2.5/4 Oct 2, 2024 Full Review Patrick Cremona Radio Times Neither the script nor direction from film-makers Bridget Savage Cole and Danielle Krudy tease out the increasingly preposterous plot with much finesse or intrigue, and DeBose delivers a jarring, overblown performance. Rated: 2/5 Oct 18, 2024 Full Review Erik Childress Movie Madness Podcast The film takes a surefire recipe of horror and then never turns on the stove, leaving all its establishment of squirm-inducing food rot and infestation to just be forgotten until there’s nothing left but the smell. Rated: 1.5/4 Oct 17, 2024 Full Review Alex Maidy JoBlo's Movie Network House of Spoils wastes a solid premise by not sticking the landing, but it still benefits from having a talented lead take us through this horror story. Izza R This is really a weird movie. The main character's over reacting. Hell's kitchen much scarier than this 🤣 Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/27/24 Full Review Audience Member A very different movie that combines a super natural element with a restaurant drama, and it's actually a fun combo because of the way they tie these two things together. Very cool to see Ariana DeBose in a horror story like this, she was excellent yet again. Ariana showed a lot of range throughout the performance, and has a charisma that adds to the entertainment factor. I also really appreciate the atmosphere of the movie. It feels very countryside, and has a good fall setting too. It heavily plays in to the cozy and fun experience. I did feel like the final act of the movie was weaker than the first two. There was something about it that felt sort of hollow, and when it ended it just ended, I didn't feel anything. But like I mentioned, they tie the genres together seamlessly, it has a cool story, and it's a pleasurable experience watching due to the sleek direction, editing, and cozy countryside, fall setting. Also it's always a joy to see Ariana in a movie, especially something like this. Thank you. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/26/24 Full Review Jerod S Was a fresh idea, but the presence behind the foods in the garden didn't ever make sense. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/17/24 Full Review Brian E Had potential but the last 30 mins is insufferable Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/13/24 Full Review Joshua C I thought house of spoils was actually pretty good. I wouldn't personally consider it a horror movie but I enjoyed how it leaned into the homegrown side of cooking. I enjoyed the movie overall and it exceeded expectations. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/12/24 Full Review Lomax L A very unique movie showing a tasteful mix of culinary and spooky. Good for a movie night if you have snacks prepared.
