There is something dark and mysterious occurring in a small Hungarian village, but exactly what that is remains a secret, barely perceptible among the rhythms of everyday life. A youth drives the milk cart and spies a young woman sunbathing. An old woman plows her field, and a farmer's sow is fertilized. But there is also a strange ritual that involves the villagers and the mailman, who presents items to every new widow when her husband dies -- something that happens with regular frequency.

Martin Rubin Chicago Reader Told almost entirely without words and composed largely of detail shots, this doesn't quite transcend the gimmickry of its concept, but it succeeds as a bravura technical exercise with some truly amazing images. Apr 4, 2019 Full Review Empire Magazine Rated: 4/5 Apr 1, 2006 Full Review Liam Lacey Globe and Mail Unclassifiable and wildly original. Rated: 3/4 Aug 13, 2004 Full Review Boyd van Hoeij european-films.net Some of the things encountered in Hukkle are brilliant cinematic conceits, which the director properly builds up to their punchline. Dec 6, 2006 Full Review Bill Gibron PopMatters Sparkling and thought-provoking, Hukkle is the cinematic equivalent of a puzzle box wrapped up in ethnic enigmas and rural riddles. Rated: A Jul 27, 2005 Full Review Steve Schneider Orlando Weekly The movie is an enriching, lovingly filmed exercise in disorientation, worth seeing more than once if you've got the time, money and patience. eric b Mostly, this is a film about liquids being poured. Sheer torture. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member So now it is okay to kill animals for a movie? No film is worth the poisoning of animals for the sake of a storyline. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Beautiful. Amazing. Must see. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member It's hard to sit through, but apparently it's a masterpiece. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member O soluço é a parte mais legal... ou a única.
