sarah s A couple with a big age gap studying nature on an island, poisoning feral animals. Along comes semi good-looking stranger to help. Main guy is jealous but bent on staying on the island in a smell-his-own-farts attempt to live with nature, not being a part of the rat-race back home. He sabotages ways for the outside world to contact them. Story is split into 3 different characters with timejumps that are ineffective due to continuity issues. Slight tension and suspense but...never enough and all themes (possible love triangle/stolen identity/ethics/eugenics) are not explored longer than 15seconds each. Skip this one unless you're sick on the couch and can't reach the remote, drifting in and out of fever dreams and barely watching. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member It’s an interesting story, but could have been presented in a more suspenseful manner. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/25/18 Full Review Audience Member There's 90 minutes of my life I will never get back. Incredibly dull. Who funded this? I wouldn't recommend wasting your time watching this movie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Could not follow the plot Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/03/19 Full Review Audience Member Captivating, mysterious, unique, gorgeous, thrilling and horrifying all at the same time. It's amazingly refreshing to see films from all over the world and places where you wouldn't expect. HUMAN TRACES thrills and also speaks to the bigger picture of what's going on in the world...this is a microcosm of what we are all going through and it played so well at the Toronto International Film Festival. Well written, proficiently acted and the cinematography is absolutely breathtaking. I hope to see more of these. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Richard Kuipers Variety First-time feature writer-director Nic Gorman has delivered a suspenseful, engrossing and very well performed mood piece that marks him as a talent worth watching. Sep 27, 2017 Full Review Toby Woollaston New Zealand Herald Despite it missing opportunities at times to explore this subtext with more vigour, Human Traces remains a surprisingly strong contender for Kiwi film of the year. Rated: 4/5 Dec 27, 2017 Full Review Sarah Watt Stuff.co.nz This is Christchurch filmmaker Nic Gorman's feature debut as writer-director - and what intelligent writing and directing it is. Rated: 4.5/5 Nov 16, 2017 Full Review Graeme Tuckett Stuff.co.nz This is a smart, entertaining, thoughtful and mischievous film with something on its mind and the confidence and know-how to say it. Bravo. Rated: 4/5 Nov 13, 2017 Full Review Tony Stamp Flicks (AU, NZ, UK) The debut feature from Nic Gorman is essentially a three-hander between Sophie Henderson, Mark Mitchinson, and Vinnie Bennett, providing ample amounts of empathy, gravitas, and pure smoulder, respectively. Rated: 4/5 Nov 13, 2017 Full Review Aurelie Godet Cinema Scope If you won't face the challenge of making every scene and every shot present, the risk that you unavoidably face is that your thriller may be left without the thrills.
