Charles Solomon Los Angeles Times Hardcore "Hunter" devotees may enjoy "Last Mission," but the film lacks much of the good cheer and frisky élan of the broadcast series. Jan 30, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Kyle E My favorite Hunter x Hunter film Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/25/24 Full Review Audience Member A tough watch considering this anime is one of my favorites. All the traditional characters from the beginning of the series are present, but not enough screen time leaves them feeling absent. The main problem is the uneventful plot twists that is usually makes the series so good. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member It has the characters Hunter x Hunter fans love, though none really have moments to shine. This may be due to a low budget since the animation appears lower quality than the show. A lot of it feels rushed, but most especially the second act's developments with Gon being a quasi-martyr. I'll admit the concept of On as an alternate option to Nen is interesting, though there's a lot that's stupid about it. For one, it's kind of stupid for it to encompass all Nen types. Another, it's stupid for it to be the "opposite" or "dark" side of Nen since Nen has been described as the basis of life energy inherent in everyone. On as a type of Nen makes more sense since Nen in itself is neither "light" nor "dark" and On could be considered "dark" due to its pact-with-the-devil-like conditions that puts one's life on the line and it being based on anger. Then again, anger in itself isn't inherently dark and Kurapika has made a similar pact also based on anger in the way of Nen, so it's nebulous as to where the line is drawn between Nen and On. Like I said, it's an interesting concept but in need of further fleshing out that a standalone movie wouldn't be able to provide. Anyway, overall it's a benign and basic movie. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Fans of the series will want to catch this side tale about Shadow and their use of the dark side of Nen. The Heaven's Arena setting returns, which will be nostalgic for some. Having both films from 2013 be revenge plots is a questionable move, however. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Solid film, nothing too interesting going on here. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
