Kerensa Cadenas Bitch Media During my teenage years, I would probably have loved this film-I constantly imagined I was in a Weetzie Bat-esque Francesca Lia Block headspace. But as an adult viewer, the fantasy fell flat-at the end of the film I craved more of Davina's reality. Jan 20, 2021 Full Review Martin Tsai Los Angeles Times In spite of its fanciful tendencies, the film nails the growing pains that result from love and loss. Jun 19, 2015 Full Review Katie Walsh The Playlist It rings true, resonates as real even in its fantasies, because it is rooted in a place of authenticity, in subjectivity, in emotion and in storytelling. Rated: B+ May 29, 2015 Full Review Josh Slater-Williams Vague Visages Despite connotations of whimsy in its naming, and the presence of a couple of stop-motion animation interludes, I Believe in Unicorns is far darker than it may initially seem; a deliberately upsetting and sexually frank production. Nov 14, 2023 Full Review Michael J. Casey Boulder Weekly Not just a voice, a resounding roar. Aug 19, 2019 Full Review Ren Jender Bitch Flicks [Leah] Meyerhoff explained how difficult casting Davina was and how the filmmaking team went through hundreds of actresses before they found Dyer. I wish this writer-director had put that same effort into writing a coherent script for her talented actors. Mar 13, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Rat I The cinematography was beautifully done and the storyline and the script felt very realistic. Some of the scenes may feel random but they have a deeper meaning. It feels like a very poetic movie. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/24 Full Review Abigail M idk if i actually like this movie, but im gonna watch it again and again and again. because it made me happy and i felt like i child again, like maybe everything was alright. Must see Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/05/23 Full Review georgan g Had I not read the story outline I wouldn't have known was happened in the end. Still, good story of youngsters in their first love. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member An aesthetically pleasing film that tries too hard to be "indie" and "quirky". While the plot was there and well thought out, the start-stop motion shots felt very eccentric to me. It felt like the director was trying too hard to make this movie stand out; it felt very Tumblr 2015 style (the music, the font of the title and credits). Natalia Dyer honestly carried. For only being 16 at the time, her acting was superb. My only critique with Natalia is that she was too young. I understand the director wanted a true 16 year old to play the part and relay the story in an honest fashion but I felt extremely uncomfortable watching the last scene between Sterling and Divina (and all of the scenes of the two together in general). Very unsettling to me and even more unsettling that her parents agreed to let her partake in this (even though it's just a film). If you're looking for an aesthetically pleasing film that brings toxic relationship issues to light, this is the film for you (if you don't mind a couple of cringe worthy Tumblr shots). I personally would not watch this again, although it did pass the time. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews
