Audience Member Fun film about love. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Just watched this on TF1 tonight. Disappointingly unfunny; the main structural problem is that the central character is irredeemably loathsome, and unless the audience secretly sympathizes with the protagonist in his predicament, the cause is lost. Perhaps realising this script failure, the producers cast the genial Alain Chabat in the role - in the hope that he will save the situation. This can only work for those who come to the film fully aware of Chabat's previous work - as most French people will. It is however a cheap trick, and it failed on me. Gainsbourg, nevertheless, is magnetic and the whole ensemble does its level best as the plot winds itself towards the inevitable redemption through true love. The French release date incidentally, was 2006.
