Tara Brady Irish Times It’s enough to restore one’s faith in the near-extinct subgenre once known as the teen comedy. Rated: 4/5 Dec 23, 2023 Full Review Amil Niazi Globe and Mail Levack has done a remarkable job with her feature-film debut, playing with tropes that have time-honoured traditions but are always in need of a refresh. Mar 6, 2023 Full Review Radheyan Simonpillai CTV's Your Morning Imagine if Superbad were directed by a woman who didn’t allow the toxic masculinity and misogyny to go unchecked, while also l giving her genuinely funny and moving characters the room for growth and empathy. I Like Movies does that. Rated: 4/5 Mar 4, 2023 Full Review Ray Pride Newcity Affable, genial and so, so kind, the kindly take on potential cringe you’d expect from a young Canadian filmmaker... Indie cinema lives and thrives. Honesty rocks. Passion rules. Rated: 10/10 Jul 4, 2024 Full Review Matt Pais MattPais.com Has a terrific understanding of how change happens, respecting what’s often a hard and painful process with an uncommon willingness to break through illusions. Rated: B+ May 12, 2024 Full Review Tina Kakadelis Beyond the Cinerama Dome Simultaneously a love letter and a critique of the artform we all love, I Like Movies is for anyone who’s ever lost themselves in the silver screen. Audience Member I love this movie. Everything is relatable in it. The cast is great. The story is real yet heartfelt. And it’s Canadian. We can make great movies here. Well done! Highly recommend Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/12/24 Full Review Cream Shaboogie Bop Loved it, great film. Super entertaining Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/12/24 Full Review Dave S Lawrence (Isaiah Lehtinen), a 17-year-old social outcast struggling to come to terms with the suicide of his father four years earlier, dreams of leaving his suburban Ontario life to attend film school at NYU. Seemingly thwarted from every angle, he takes a job in a local video store in order to indulge his love of movies, at which point things become complicated. While it does manage to have an infectious energy to it and is relatable for anyone who even remotely experienced teen angst, I Like Movies falls a bit flat due to some overstated performances and some dialogue and situations that just don't feel real. Is it worth a watch? Sure, just as long as you don't set your sights too high. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/31/24 Full Review Mackenzie E Chandler Levack's hits the ground running with this love letter to video stores and creative hopefuls, written in a way that allows characters to breathe and feel beautifully flawed. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/08/23 Full Review hangarbay 2 Loved it. Very unique interesting story with many layers and emotional moments; Simply put I like I Like Moives.
