In Vermont, college student Ives Towner (Henry Fonda) refuses to marry his longtime girlfriend, Julie Weir (Joan Bennett), until he has a career. Soon after, Julie meets and grows infatuated with handsome writer Michael Shaw (Alan Marshal), and they marry and move to Paris. Years later, after Michael's accidental death, Julie and her daughter move back to Vermont to live with her aunt (Dame May Whitty) and Julie finds Ives, now a professor, disinterested in resuming their romantic relationship.

Weird that this movie isn't more popular with it's all-star cast. It has a pretty basic plot, but the acting and cinematography makes it above average. A noir romance I would definitely watch again.

This story has decent acting and the typical story themes of the 1930s. Worth seeing if only for Henry Fonda. Joan Bennet carries the movie and you can see why was so successful in NY theater.
