After learning that a rich stranger wants him to make a politically themed film, producer Georges Figon (Charles Berling) enlists help from director Georges Franju (Jean-Pierre Léaud) and writer Marguerite Duras (Josiane Balasko). But when one of the film's consultants, Moroccan politician Mehdi Ben Barka (Simon Abkarian), is kidnapped, Figon realizes he's in cahoots with the wrong people. Narrated by the doomed Figon, the film explores actual events that rocked Paris.
