Critics Consensus

I See You gets tripped up on its own narrative contortions, but a solid cast and an effective blend of scares and suspense make this slow-building mystery worth watching.

Kevin Maher Times (UK) The director's smartest achievement, however, is the way that he shifts the narrative emphasis around, frequently via plot twists, minor and major. Rated: 4/5 Jun 11, 2020 Full Review Nick Allen RogerEbert.com It would be impossible to guess the ending of I See You during its tiresome first act, which is something numerous films can't tout, but the movie uses cheap tricks to earn that kudos. Rated: 1.5/4 Dec 6, 2019 Full Review Dennis Harvey Variety An eerie suspense exercise that starts out looking like a supernatural tale - one of several viewer presumptions this cleverly engineered narrative eventually pulls the rug out from under. Jonah K one of the worst ways i’ve seen a movie reframe itself. once the perspective changes halfway through, the filmmakers don’t trust the audience enough to interpret what is happening, so they literally show you everything again to make sure you understand. the ending spends so much time holding your hand on plot reveals that you already guessed 30 minutes prior. this doesn’t even cover how convenient and contrived the narrative is. it’s a shame because there are some really unique concepts here that could have been interesting, if handled correctly. additionally, this is one of the worst movie scores in recent memory. annoyingly repetitive, overly ominous and over dramatic. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/31/24 Full Review muteboy g Hard not to see Hunt's frozen face. Not good performance of her either. Script is sometimes silly. I wonder what did 75% of reviewers saw in this movie. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/08/24 Full Review Barbara S Scary and interesting. Made different wasn't gory. It was suspenseful. Wait til the end please. It's a different scary. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/06/24 Full Review Kelcie G Best film I’ve ever watched you’ve got to make sure you watch till the end it was one of the best horrors I’ve watched if even watch it again love the storyline and the way it was played Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/01/24 Full Review Adam B Had several unexpected and unique twists only to end up becoming formulaic and obvious in the third act. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/14/24 Full Review Devin B Starts out slow but the story gets better and better towards the end with really good twists and turns!
